he lives in both la and ny. his family is probably his priority. make money for them and be a star.

I get that, but I absolutely hate the argument that he has to be in NY or LA for his family. Lets be honest here, during the season where he is playing is irrelevant because he will spend a ton of time away from them. Also, does anyone really buy that La La won't be in LA or NY if he goes to Houston or Chicago? I don't buy where he goes impacts her for a second. She's already worth $9M. I think it's just more of his personal preference and life style to be in a big market. Irritates me even more when I think back how he was unhappy with losing in New York last season and now he's going right back to it.

im not denying any of that, but he seems to be a spotlight and family first kind of guy. he's going to be in the two biggest markets that he can be just to keep that star lit.

Basically what I was saying, and you just put it into words better. Just without the family first sort of thing. He wants to be in the spotlight. Like I said, wants to live a lifestyle he couldn't live in Chicago or Houston.

I don't think LA will have a ton of money. They already have Kobe on the cap for $25M during the 15-16 season, and if the reports about the max offer to Melo are true, then he will be on the cap for probably $23M at the least. That's 73% of the cap on just two players, not counting the cap hit Steve Nash will have until they release his rights plus whatever they do this offseason, I can't imagine they will sign seven or eight one year deals. Think it's more likely than not that LA will not have the salary for another "star" to surround Melo and Kobe with after this season.

Ive said it all along its either us or Chicago, Melo aint going to LAL.
 
I think if we can make one more significant move to the roster before he makes his decision, he'd resign.
 
Honestly I think he re-signs anyway, doesnt wanna go down as the only superstar to play for NY and LAL and never win a ring. 
 
Rose not pitching him, probably hurt his ego too, plus the fact he's bascially have to force a S&T.
 
If Melo, remains a Knick and brings us back to the franchise we were in the last 80's/ early 90s he'll be a hero. He doesnt even have to win a ring tbh, obviously as a Knicks fan, thats the ultimate goal, but NY never forgets.

Carmelo Anthony is prepared to spend the prime years of his career in New York, the Daily News has learned.
 
A person close to Anthony told The News on Wednesday that barring a last minute change of heart Anthony will re-sign with the Knicks after "agonizing over this" for the past week.
 
"He will have something for everybody on Thursday," said the friend who was with Anthony before Anthony's scheduled workout with Kevin Durant and Kevin Love in Los Angeles on Wednesday. "He is really torn because this is the biggest decision of his career. But he wants to get it done in New York. He told me he believes in Phil."

Players can begin signing free agent contracts on Thursday and the deal on the table from the Knicks is a max contract worth $129 million over five years. The Lakers have also offered Anthony a max deal over four years while the Chicago Bulls would have to orchestrate a sign-and-trade in order for Anthony to receive close to a max contract.
 
Anthony, who throughout the season was steadfast in saying that he wanted to remain in New York, was intrigued by moving west and joining Kobe Bryant in Los Angeles. He also believed that he would be joining a championship contender in Chicago.
 

But ultimately, Anthony's heart is in New York where his family is comfortable and where he confident that Jackson can return the club to prominence.
 
Anthony's friend says that Anthony prolonging his decision is not a reflection of him having second thoughts about the Knicks. Instead, it was Anthony wanting to be sure that he could put himself in position to win a championship.
 
Although the Knicks still have to make significant upgrades to improve the roster, Anthony is pleased by the addition of point guard Jose Calderon, whom the Knicks acquired from the Mavs on draft night. Once Anthony re-signs, Jackson will continue his pursuit of Lakers free agent Pau Gasol, who is friends with his Spanish national team teammate Calderon.
