Its not like its shocking... he's the 2nd best player in FA, and they probably think they have a better chance at getting melo than bron

So if Pau signs in NY, does that mean Melo's a lock to return? So weird. Who knew Pau Gasol could be the one to keep Melo in NY.

If he stays, cool
He just wasnt about winning

Said the same about dwight if he stayed in la, but he smartly left

Knicks will still be mediocre at best this season
Guess he doesnt mind wasting yet another season of his prime

It's sad that if Melo resigns in New York he'll spend atleast the majority of the rest of his career in mediocrity.

And how do they get better, moving forward? In the East, rim protection is the only way you have a chance to beat whichever team LeBron is on. The Knicks just traded an elite rim protector (though he's not worth his contract) and landed Sam Dalembert, whose desire is questioned and ability is more suited to bench play.

Bargs and Stoudemire aren't going to start defending the rim all of a sudden.

The Knicks' only chance of getting better any time soon is if the East gets even worse and they start to look better.

I said majority of the rest of his career. I mean I just can't fathom why he would want to waste two years at the very least of his prime playing for the Knicks. I mean I don't have anything against the Knicks, but lets be honest with or without Melo they have a very long path towards becoming contenders.

They have $46M in expiring contracts. They can get plenty of talented players via trade/FA

For example, they can move Amare+ Tim Hardaway+picks to Boston for Rondo and Gerald Wallace. They can go out and get a max deal on Marc Gasol after that too, or Kevin Love.

Contractually, they are in a great situation
