TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays continued to build up their pitching depth Saturday by re-acquiring left-hander Zach Jackson from the Cleveland Indians for a player to be named.

Jackson was chosen in the first round of the 2004 draft by the Blue Jays, who dealt him in the fall of 2005 to the Milwaukee Brewers as part of a package for first baseman Lyle Overbay.

The 26-year-old was later one of four players acquired by Cleveland in the 2008 trade that sent ace CC Sabathia to Milwaukee.

He pitched in three games, one start, for the Indians last season, posting a 9.35 earned-run average in 8 2-3 innings. At triple-A Columbus, he went 4-8 with a 6.05 ERA, made 14 starts and pitched in 30 games.

Jackson went 2-3 with a 5.60 ERA for Cleveland in 2008.

The Blue Jays will invite Jackson to spring training.

El Nuevo Herald is reporting that the Blue Jays are closing in on a deal with Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman in the range of five years and 23 million dollars.

The Spanish-language version of the Miami Herald says that a deal is very close; I tend to stay away from reports from these type of reports, but the Nuevo Herald has not been as inconsistent as others. (Regardless, proceed with caution)

The Athletics are believed to be involved in negotiations, but it is possible the Blue Jays view him as a starter and are guaranteeing him something other teams won't.
Idk If it's true but I also heard it on Sportsnet last night.

Well if the Giants didnt have those 2 horrible contracts in Zito and Rowand this wouldnt be so tough, lol.
It's not just those contracts its also the fact that LaRoche wants to be overpaid as well...$30 mill over 3 years, for an guy who doesn't really excel in any aspect of his game, is dreaming.

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers have agreed on a one-year contract with outfielder Vladimir Guerrero.

The team's website reports that the contract contains an option year for 2011. The 14-year pro will turn 35 in February and joins the Rangers after spending the last six seasons with AL West rival Los Angeles.

Guerrero will most likely serve as Texas' designated hitter, as injuries have limited his role in the outfield. Last season, in just 100 games -- two in the outfield -- he hit .295 with a .334 on-base percentage while slugging 15 homers and knocking in 50 runs.

In 1,850 career games with the Angels and Expos, Guerrero has hit 407 homers with 1,318 RBI while batting .321 with a robust .386 on-base percentage.

Why didn't the Red Sox go after Vlad?

Oh well, I'd like to see them sign Rick Ankie or Jermaine Dye. Or both, but it'd really help out their line-up. Sign Dye to a 2-year deal, Ankiel to a 3-4 year deal. We'd have a great line-up:

Ellsbury CF, Pedroia 2B, VMart C, Youk 1B, Dye RF, Ortiz DH, Ankiel LF, Beltre 3B, Scutaro SS

We'd have a great chance at going to the WS after that. Plus Drew as a utility player for OF's and DH who need a day off. Plus we can sign Tejada to a one year deal for a utility infielder. We'd be perfectly set.

A $15 million utility OF? No thank you. They have Hall for that to play infield/outfield.

Buster Olney says Padres, Dodgers, Braves, Rockies, and Mets can all be counted out as "mystery NL team"

Oh didn't see that the Sox got Hall. NVM the Tejada idea. But still, you know Drew will get hurt, and Ankiel can't cost to much, maybe 4-7 mill a year. As for Dye, about 9-12 mill, which is why its a one or two year deal. But Ankiel is solid and we need that home run hitter (can hit 20-30 HR's a season). And Drew is only in Boston for one more season.

No one's going to pay Dye 9-12 million, especially not Epstein. Everyone in that lineup, with exception to Ellsbury Scutaro, and Pedroia (though he could) can hit 20+ homers. They aren't going to pay for another outfielder, they already have four plus a guy (Hall) that can play there if need be.

Yea it looks like he is going to the Reds. Which is kind of weird cuz all the rumors I heard from Cincy this year was that they were trying to cut down on payroll.

sorry PM7, LaRoche is a no go

The Giants agreed to sign Aubrey Huff to a one-year $3MM deal, according to Dennis O'Donnell of CBS5 in San Francisco. The deal, O'Donnell says via e-mail, is pending a physical.
