I'm glad to hear. The Toronto Blue Jays, who are already primed to have a lot of competition for their starting rotation, might be able to add another pitcher to the mix.
According to the Coastal Courier, Dustin McGowan - who missed all of 2009 and half of 2008 with a shoulder injury - is hoping to be ready for the 2010 edition of spring training.
"I feel good," McGowan told the Courier. "My shoulder feels great. I'm throwing again and looking forward to getting back on the mound."
McGowan, who underwent surgery on his right labrum in the summer of 2008, was delayed again when he injured his left knee during some routine running in rehab, requiring him to have surgery in July of 2009.
The 27-year old says that while his knee is fine, the rehabilitation on his shoulder was a tougher process.
“It's been difficult," McGowan said. "You start out not being able to throw and then you throw a little, and progressively increase your throwing. Right now it feels good and I'm throwing well.”
McGowan, who has tagged his fitness level at "somewhere around 85 percent," will be going to Dunedin early for spring training, and said he wants to prove that he's ready to start the 2010 season in the starting rotation.
“I'm shooting for the first of the year," McGowan stated. "I plan on (doing so well at spring training), making it hard for them not to put me on the mound."
ESPN's Buster Olney reports (via Twitter) that Adam LaRoche turned down a two-year, $17MM deal from San Francisco, and now the Giants may have pulled their offer back altogether.
-ESPNMark McGwire is returning to baseball this season as the St. Louis Cardinals' hitting coach. Could he also be making a cameo as a player, too?
In an interview with the Contra Costa Times, Cardinals manager Tony La Russa mentioned the possibility of putting McGwire on the team's active roster on Aug. 31 so he'd be eligible to play in the postseason, if the Cardinals are still in the race.
“Is it likely? Probably not. I don't think it's a zero possibility.” -- Tony La Russa on McGwire as a pinch-hitter
"If we're in contention, we'll put him on the roster Aug. 31. It's a nice little dream," La Russa told the newspaper.
Nolol get ready for this
