True, but Boston also lost Bay
I'd like it but I'm pretty sure that offer was taken off the table..who knows thoWell if I were Holliday I would strongly consider the Red Sox. I think they offered something around 85 million for him. Thats a pretty nice deal considering he would be going to a really good team.
I guess it could've been worse... I'm assuming they think a Jeff Baker/Mike Fontenot platoon will work at 2B, so I hope the lineup looks like this on Opening Day -Cubs sign Marlon Byrd for 3 years worth 15 million. The contract is backloaded and he will be the starting CFer for them next year. Finding a center fielder has been an issue for the Cubs. Byrd will be the sixth different Opening Day starter in the last six years.
Now that's news.PHOENIX -- Detroit Tigers catcher Gerald Laird and his younger brother, New York Yankees infield prospect Brandon Laird, were arrested following a brawl in the lounge area of Phoenix's NBA arena, according to police.
Phoenix police said Gerald Laird, 30, was cited for assault Wednesday night and 22-year-old Brandon Laird was cited for disorderly conduct. Police said the Lairds and a third man were arrested at U.S. Airways Arena after the fight during the Phoenix Suns-Boston Celtics game.
Police said arena security previously contacted the group of men about their loud behaviour. Two of the men were allowed back into the lounge after a conversation with security, but a melee broke out shortly afterward and the Laird brothers allegedly assaulted the security guards.
Gerald Laird lives in suburban Peoria in the off-season. Brandon Laird is considered one of the top infield prospects in the Yankees farm system and played for the Surprise Rafters in the Arizona Fall League this year.
SMFH at both of themNow that's news.
Lard ass?Ehh. Laird is ass anyways lol.
Longshot imoGeneral Manager Alex Anthopoulos' quest to rebuild the Toronto Blue Jays could involve the big money signing of 21-year old Cuban pitcher Aroldis Chapman.
According to ESPN, the Jays held a private workout for Chapman Thursday morning in Florida, before meeting with his agents.
The 21-year old left-hander, worked out for around 14 teams in Houston three weeks ago, where his fastball reportedly topped out at 97 mph.
Chapman was reportedly offered a $15.5 million offer from the Boston Red Sox in November, when he was with his previous agent.
Chapman, who defected when the Cuban national team was playing in the Netherlands, is the highest regarded defector since Jose Contreras left in 2002 when the national team played in Mexico.
Contreras received a four-year $32 million contract with the New York Yankees in 2003. It is believed that Chapman could command a $20-25 million deal.
andESPN reported that the Sox were "quietly" negotiating with Adrian Beltre. But unless Beltre and Scott Boras were willing to settle for a short-term deal, those whispers may not amount to much. Oakland is interested and actually has money to spend.
Oakland is in the thick of the bidding for Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman, according to major-league sources, and there is no reason to think the A's can't lure Chapman away from some of the big-money teams, the way they did with Dominican phenom Michael Ynoa two years ago. Oakland paid Ynoa a record-setting $4.25 million bonus, beating out the Yankees, among others.
NoBeltre in Oakland?
