BTW, we traded for Hairston last season with BTW, we traded for Hairston last season with San Diego. LOL
Pretty easy deal for San Diego to make. They aren't going anywhere anytime soon, they are loading up on prospects, and its too easy to shift Chase Headley back to third.

But yea, for his defense and his potential power numbers, Kouzmanoff is a good fit for Oakland. I'd actually be happy about not signing Beltre. Would of cost a lot more and I honestly don't think he'd be much more productive than Kouz will be moving forward. Beltre is one of those cats who's career spiked about the same time PED use among MLB players went under the microscope.

A prospect is a prospect. San Diego knows they aren't getting a top prospect. If he plays really well, it's a plus. If not, it was expected

Cunningham could always turn out to be a solid MLB player, he hit the shiznit out of the ball in Triple-A, but I just don't like him for any more than possibly a 4th outfielder...at best. He's 24, coming off a sports hernia, and just couldn't figure out hitting in the biggs last season.

Tim Lincecum is atop the list of arbitration eligible players this year which was filed yesterday. He is set to earn $10 million or more from his case. Other notable players eligible for the first time include Tampa Bay pitcher Matt Garza, Texas outfielder Josh Hamilton, Chicago White Sox outfielder Carlos Quentin and Tampa Bay outfielder B.J. Upton. Also due for big raises are Seattle pitcher Felix Hernandez, White Sox closer Bobby Jenks, Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon and Philadelphia outfielder Shane Victorino. - FPS

The Giants re-signed Brandon Medders to a one year deal. He was solid for the team last season and I'm glad they decided to use his services for another year

MONDAY, 6:33pm: The Nationals will be watching Sheets' session, a baseball source tells Bill Ladson of MLB.com.

SATURDAY, 8:31pm: The Mets will be in attendance when Sheets throws on Tuesday, according to Ed Price of Fanhouse.com (via Twitter).

Earlier today, Cardinals GM John Mozeliak confirmed to fans and reporters that the club will be in Monroe, Louisiana to watch Sheets as well.

FRIDAY, 4:36pm: Brewers GM Doug Melvin tells Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the Brewers will watch Sheets next week. Haudricourt suggests the Brewers are just being dilligent.

1:33pm: The Dodgers will watch Sheets pitch, according to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times (via Twitter).

11:42am: The Angels could use Sheets, but will they watch him throw? "Not at this time," GM Tony Reagins tells Bill Shaikin of the LA Times.

8:40am: Cardinals GM John Mozeliak tells Rob Rains of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat that the Cards will "likely" watch Sheets throw.

MLB.com's Jordan Bastian adds the Blue Jays to the list of interested teams.
Blue Jays pitcher Shaun Marcum, who missed '09 due to Tommy John surgery, signed for $850K tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. 2010 is Marcum's first arbitration year.

Padres signed utilityman Jerry Hairston Jr. to a one-year, $2.125 million contract.
Hairston Jr. is expected to serve in a super-utility role for San Diego in 2010 and should find time all around the infield and outfield. The 34-year-old batted .251/.315/.394 with 10 home runs and 39 RBI in 383 at-bats between the Reds and Yankees last season.

Aww...how cute...the Hairston boys are back together again.

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays signed right-handed pitchers Shawn Camp, Jeremy Accardo, Jason Frasor and Casey Janssen, as well as lefty Brian Tallet to one-year contracts on Tuesday, thus avoiding arbitration with the hurlers.

The competition this spring for a role in the Toronto Blue Jays' bullpen looks to have gotten tougher.

The Jays acquired right-handed reliever Merkin Valdez from the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations.

The 28-year old Valdez, who was designated for assignment last week so the club could make room on the 40-man roster for slugger Aubrey Huff, appeared in 48 games for the Giants last season, going 2-1 with a 5.66 earned run average.

"He throws up to 98," Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos told the CANADIAN PRESS via email. "We're just adding some depth, taking a shot on a power arm."

Over parts of three big league seasons, all with the Giants, Valdez is 3-1 with a 5.24 ERA in 65 games.
Ehh he's probably one of those guys who have high heat but no control.

The Angels reached an agreement with free agent right-hander Joel Pineiro on a two-year deal worth $16 million, two sources told SI.com on Wednesday night.

The move comes somewhat as a surprise, as earlier reports had the Mets and Dodgers as the front-runners for the Pineiro's services. But news of the Angels' interest heightened on Wednesday when Newsday reported the Angels were the veteran's top choice. Additionally, ESPN.com reported that the deal is pending a physical, which will be held Thursday.

Pineiro, who went 15-12 with a 3.49 ERA in 32 starts with the Cardinals in 2009, will help solidify an Angels rotation that already has four quality starters in Jered Weaver, Scott Kazmir, Joe Saunders and Ervin Santana

Pineiro is a solid move for the Halos, much cheaper than re-signing Lackey. The Halos are still good enough to be division champions and regardless of what Seattle has done this off-season, the Angels will still be better. You can't blame the Angels for not making expensive moves this off-season...when you take a look at whats available next off-season. We're talking Pujols, Lee, Crawford, etc. Next off-season is exactly why the Angels have been quiet this off-season and why the Yanks have been signing and trading for so many 1-year deals.

For now, Weaver-Pineiro-Santana-Kazmir-Saunders is the best roto in the AL West.

Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the Pirates have signed Octavio Dotel to a one year deal worth about $3 million along with a club option for 2011.
The 36 year old is the prohibitive favorite to close for the Pirates and should have a fair amount of value as a result. He spent the last two seasons as a setup man for the White Sox, posting respective ERAs of 3.76 and 3.32. Over said two years, his K/9 rate was a strong 10.83 and should have plenty of value in mixed leagues.

SOURCE
Another good move for the Pirates. Not a major move but Dotel is capable of putting up solid numbers when healthy. This deal has mid-season trade bait written all over it.
