The Phillies signed Joe Blanton to a three-year, $24MM extension, according to a team press release. The deal buys out Blanton's last arbitration year and two free agent seasons. AOL FanHouse's Ed Price tweets the details: $7MM in '10 and $8.5MM in '11 and '12. Another $500K can be earned with innings incentives. The price is reasonable, given the recent contracts signed by Jason Marquis and Joel Pineiro.

Cool interview on MLB network with BJ and Justin Upton, it was funny when they asked who was the better hitter and stuff like that, lol.

Yea I was just about to post that. I hope its Luis Castillo, but it prolly wont be.

With center fielder Carlos Beltran expected to miss the early part of the season, the Mets arranged a deal with the Angels on Friday to acquire Gary Matthews Jr., an American League source told SI.com.

Matthews is in line to make $11 million in 2010 and $12 million in 2011, but SI.com wrote that the Angels will be paying "the vast portion of that money." Who the Angels will get in return is not yet known, but Minor Leaguers were discussed, and Los Angeles has shown interest in reliever Brian Stokes, the Web site added.

Matthews doesn't appear to factor into the Angels' plans for the upcoming season. The 35-year-old switch-hitter has batted .248 in his three years with Los Angeles. In 2009, he batted .250 with four homers and 50 RBIs in 103 games.

I got a verification that it is Brian Stokes going to the Angels, with the Angels paying the majority of GMJ's salary. I think this will be a decent move, we get a great defensive CF'er to play in that expanse Citi Field while Beltran rehabs from surgery and the Angels take most of the salary, sounds like a good deal.

Holy hell...the Mets just did the Angels a huge favor. GM2 has logged 1 All-Star season, ironically during a contract year, and has been horrible all other years. Another bonehead move by Minaya.

Phillies just signed Contreras too.

Tejada returning to O's with 1-year deal

Miguel Tejada will return to Baltimore after agreeing to a one-year, $6 million deal with the Orioles, the slugger told ESPNDeportes.com's Enrique Rojas on Saturday.

The free agent shortstop played in Baltimore from 2004-07, before being traded to the Houston Astros in December 2007 for five players.

The deal includes around $1 million in incentives for playing time registered, Tejada said.

"I am happy to return to Baltimore, it's like my home," Tejada told Rojas. "We have great young talent, and I think many good things could happen with the club in 2010."

According to The Baltimore Sun, which first reported the story, the deal is pending a physical that's expected to take place in the next couple of days.

He is now tabbed for third base with the release of Melvin Mora. Cesar Izturis is expected to stay at shortstop.

"Mentally and physically I was getting ready to play third base since the season ended last year," Tejada said.

Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail recalled Saturday asking Tejada to move from shortstop during his final year in Baltimore.

"He said he didn't think it was time. He went to the National League after I traded him there and was the All-Star shortstop for two years," MacPhail noted. "So, who's to say Miggy wasn't right?"

Now, however, Tejada appears willing to switch to the hot corner. And MacPhail is confident Tejada will capably handle the position.

** Matt Stairs has agreed to a minor league deal with the Padres. Stairs apparently dropped 40 pounds over the layoff.

** Jason Giambi re-signs with Colorado for 1 year/$1.5M

** So Taguchi signed with Orix Buffaloes

** Johnny Damon is telling reporters that he will sign with a team within a week.

Actually its a very good move, because Beltran is going to be out in the beginning of the year and we need a CF'er in for that extended period of time. And the Mets arent even paying him that huge contract that he has left, the Angels are. GMJ's defense is above average and thats what we need in Citi Field and a change a scenery might just be what he needs. Just ask Jeff Francouer if it worked for him, and he played with a broken thumb.

It's safe to say the Jays wont be competing for a couple of decades, especially in the AL East.

I am very dissapointed in the Mets offseason this year. We didnt sign a quality pitcher on the market and we didnt sign players that would fit perfectly with our ballpark. We didnt sign a catcher and now we have settled with what we currently have. We didnt sign another 1st Baseman to complement Murphy, we couldnt get rid of castillo to make room for Orlando Hudson. And we got rejected by various Free Agents such as John Lackey, Joel Piniero, and Bengie Molina.
