so the Rox and O's just swapped 3rd basemen

meh, not a bad swap, both players are on the decline though

hopefully new scenery will change that

Well your talking about 10 years in age difference between the 2. Mora is at the end of the line...Atkins just sucks.

Damn Johnny Damon is having the worst offseason by any player by far. I think the Mets should inquire about him, maybe he can play some 1st base or something.

Yeah I guess Damon wants to play here.
However Dumbrowski likely won't get him cause that signing would make sense. And Dumbrowski hates making sense.

I'm happy with Toronto's off-season this year, I like the direction the team is headed in

they should be fairly young and talented, I'm looking forward to seeing the new faces

I don't know why a lot of fans were <Censored> about the trade. If Drabek is developed well, I think we'd have a pwnage rotation for a long time.

Reed Johnson passed his physical today and his 1-year deal with the Dodgers is about final. Word on the street is that the Dodgers are also looking into Chien-Ming Wang.

The Red Sox signed reliever Joe Nelson, Marlins sign reliever Seth McClung.

The Mariners have even more insurance at 1B with the signing of Ryan Garko. To make room, Gaby Hernandez was DFA. Speaking of DFA, the A's DFA'd Gregorio Petit today.

The Giants have reportedly signed: BK Kim, C Justin Knoedler, and LHP Horacio Ramirez.

The lastest in the Johnny Damon fiasco: Scott Boras is telling news outlets that his client would like to play for the Detroit Tigers.

A source tells WCCO-TV's Mark Rosen that American League MVP Joe Mauer has come to a preliminary agreement with the Minnesota Twins for a 10-year contract extension.

Mauer, 26, and the Twins had been pretty quiet about contract negotiations, while fans were eager to find out if their hometown hero would be staying put at last weekend's annual fan festival.

This is Mauer's final year of his current contract and manager Ron Gardenhire said Friday he was confident that both sides would come together and strike a deal.

Other media outlets late Monday published stories online that contradicted the WCCO report.

ESPN's Buster Olney reported on a Twitter account that "Multiple sources now saying that the (WCCO) report on a preliminary agreement for Mauer is not accurate."

And the Minneapolis Star Tribune's national baseball beat writer, Joe Christensen, cited two sources who claimed that an agreement had not been reached.

WCCO's Rosen Monday afternoon reaffirmed that the framework of a 10-year agreement had been reached. He also noted that deals like this can fall apart late in the process and that the two sides were still working out final details on incentives.

Mauer's current salary this season is $12.5 million. Contract details about his new salary were not immediately released.

Mauer became only the second catcher in 33 years to win the coveted AL MVP award, finishing first in an almost unanimous vote in November.

Mauer set a major league record for highest batting average by a catcher and won his third batting title, becoming the first repeat batting champion since Nomar Garciaparra in 1999-00.

He's been voted to the All-Star team three times and won his second straight AL Gold Glove award.

Mauer was born in St. Paul and would've been a free agent after the 2010 season.

Rosen spoke with Gardenhire during TwinsFest last week and he talked about Mauer's negotiations.

"We all know it needs to get done. We all know Joe Mauer should be a Minnesota Twin forever; he belongs here. I think ownership knows that, and you know what, it's a very positive thing going on right now. Everybody is trying to get it done and I believe it will get done," said Gardenhire

The Blue Jays are close to signing free agent reliever Kevin Gregg, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com.

If he signs with Toronto, he should become the favorite for saves over Jason Frasor and Scott Downs, though it's not clear if he'll be guaranteed the ninth-inning gig from the outset. Gregg, 31, compiled a 4.72 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 23 saves in 30 opportunities with the Cubs last season, eventually losing the closer role to Carlos Marmol.
Cubs signed 1B Kevin Millar to a minor league contract.

The deal comes with an invitation to spring training, where Millar will try to win a spot with the Cubs as a backup first baseman and pinch-hitter. The 37-year-old hit just .223/.311/.363 in 283 plate appearances for the Blue Jays last season and is no doubt on the tail end of his career. But he's generally thought of as an excellent clubhouse presence, for what it's worth.

Apparently Indians are after Orlando Hudson, great to see we are spending the money we saved by trading the WS aces to pursue an aging middle infielder, a position we don't need.
