http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2010/1/9/12427...s-closing-in-onTORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays continued to build up their pitching depth Saturday by re-acquiring left-hander Zach Jackson from the Cleveland Indians for a player to be named.
Jackson was chosen in the first round of the 2004 draft by the Blue Jays, who dealt him in the fall of 2005 to the Milwaukee Brewers as part of a package for first baseman Lyle Overbay.
The 26-year-old was later one of four players acquired by Cleveland in the 2008 trade that sent ace CC Sabathia to Milwaukee.
He pitched in three games, one start, for the Indians last season, posting a 9.35 earned-run average in 8 2-3 innings. At triple-A Columbus, he went 4-8 with a 6.05 ERA, made 14 starts and pitched in 30 games.
Jackson went 2-3 with a 5.60 ERA for Cleveland in 2008.
The Blue Jays will invite Jackson to spring training.
Idk If it's true but I also heard it on Sportsnet last night.El Nuevo Herald is reporting that the Blue Jays are closing in on a deal with Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman in the range of five years and 23 million dollars.
The Spanish-language version of the Miami Herald says that a deal is very close; I tend to stay away from reports from these type of reports, but the Nuevo Herald has not been as inconsistent as others. (Regardless, proceed with caution)
The Athletics are believed to be involved in negotiations, but it is possible the Blue Jays view him as a starter and are guaranteeing him something other teams won't.
