So what definitively makes Alvin Gentry a lesser coach than Hoiberg? Someone enlighten me.

Personally I'm not a fan of hiring guys who have proven they aren't great head coaches whereas Hoiberg has the potential to be a great head coach

I literally think they could've signed the bag boy at your local grocery store and you would've said it was a great hire
I laid out who I would have been thrilled with weeks ago, let's not act like this name came out of nowhere.

Either way, I'm sure they could have hired Popp away from San Antonio and you would have criticized it in some way. It's a two way street.

this. we pretty much know who gentry is. hes a decent coach but he's an average coach. hoiberg has the potential to be a great coach and hes super well respected. if you can pair a potentially great coach with a potentially top three player and keep them together for a long time, that'll attract the rest of the guys you need to build a long term winning team.

The one thing I don't see being mentioned, that needs to be mentioned, is that Gentry is not nearly the entire puzzle here. The Pelicans hired about 20% of their staff yesterday. I said this weeks ago, even if the upgrade from Monty to the next HC is just a minor one, the upgrade from Ayers to the guy the HC (Gentry) hires is going to be a MAJOR one. It's not just about improving the head coach, but the entire coaching staff.

Find me a good team and I will show you a great staff. Ask anyone connected to Golden State, Gentry and Ron Adams had more of an impact than Steve Kerr. Not every team has a great HC, hell how many great HC's are there to begin with? David Blatt has Tyronn Lue and Jim Boylan. Nobody would call McHale or Wittman great coaches, but they have great staffs. Doc always surrounds himself with the best. Kenny Atkinson was as responsible for Atlantas offensive success as Coach Bud. Jason Kidd has two fantastic assistants running the defense down in Milwaukee for him. Looking at the HC and the HC alone is pointless.

Very interested to see what Gentry can do with AD.
I'm more excited about our guards to be honest, I feel like I know what he will do with AD.

Jrue's career trajectory just changed forever if he's healthy, he's going to break out in Gentry's system. Eric Gordon will be utlitized one hundred times better than he was under Monty, Gentry is going to get him so many good looks. The one guy I do wonder about is Tyreke, I don't know if Gentry would love him or hate him. With that said, he did go for 17 pts and 7 asts a game last season under Monty Williams, Gentry is going to make him better as well.

Amin Elhassan said judging Gentry based solely on his record is the "lazy man response." Basically reciting what I said to bosox when this hiring process started.

Me saying Gentry is an average coach due to his prior record is no different than you saying Gentry is responsible for the Warriors offensive improvement this year, and that it will follow to New Orleans

I love calling out lazy and simple minded people. The real problem is that lazy people NEVER have an open mind.

Getting Erman would be a coup, never thought he was even a possibility.

Already hired Robert Pack, that's a good hire. He's going to do a lot for our perimeter defense.

Erman and Pack would be a excellent start to the staff.

This is that home run hire I was talking about earlier. Gentry, Erman, and Pack are a great start. I can't wait to see what they do with our guys, especially Jrue, he's gonna make huge strides.
