How did Lance Stephenson avoid restricted free agency?  It's pretty rare for a 23 year old to be unrestricted, no?

I really would like to see Rondo, Sullinger, Jeff Green be gone from the celtics. See a team ran by Bradley, Bayless, Humphries, Wallace, and Joel Anthony.

I'm very curious to see how Daryl Morey fucks up this roster.

The fact that we live in a world where coaches in the NBA can get fired after 50+ win seasons is astonishing to me

The talent is carrying the coach in Houston. What people think happened in Golden State DEFINITELY happened in Houston. McHale is complete shit. His situational skills are lacking, and he doesn't hold his players accountable. If he'd forced James Harden to play defense these past two years, this team would have advanced, this year. The guy has no business being an NBA head coach and I wish Morey would just accept that and move on.

I personally think Houston was retaining Rick Adelman away from truly contending this year, and they might have done better than the 8 seed last year, with him.

You can't just "force" players to play defense.

Truth of the matter is there are only a handful of great coaches and the rest are all about the same, which is why I don't like retreads anymore. I'd much rather take a shot at an assistant who will likely end up in the group of "the rest", but at least has a chance to become a great coach compared to the re-hire, who you know everything about.

The fact that the coaching picture is relatively consistent is baffling to me anyways. You don't have to be athletic or "skilled" in any way, you just gotta be a huge basketball nerd and smart as hell. You could find people like that anywhere.
We'e firing and rehiring guys like Vinny del Negro three times instead of giving somebody else a chance.
But I guess that's never gonna change. Too much of a experience/reputation/connections sort of thing.

Sure you can. They're your inferiors. You're the boss--you make the call. Perhaps you can't force Harden to play good defense, but you can force him to put forth an effort.

If I'm Kevin McHale, I sit James' ass if the same old same old bullshit happens next season early on. This team underachieves in large part due to Harden's one way habits. He can save you with his offense in one game, doom you with an awful defensive play in the next (see Lillard's open 3).

Coaches don't have balls anymore. Too many head coaches spend more time catering to their players than actually having the guts to demand more out of them. See: Frank Vogel. Great coach, but not a disciplinarian and Indiana was too young to not have a hardass somewhere on that bench.
