What I've been saying all along.

NJ is the ideal spot for Dwight and he's realizing it.

That's the only place I've ever thought he'd end up.

You can take Morrow instead of Farmar, but anyone think the only reason the deal hasn't been finalized is because Okur can't be traded with other players yet? The deal wouldn't work without him.

Nelson/Duhon/Farmar
JRich/Redick/Brooks
Hedo/QRich/Clark
Anderson/Davis/Harper
Lopez/Okur/Orton

Plus whatever draft picks.

The Los Angeles Lakers were thought to be the team Dwight Howard favored most when he requested a trade from the Orlando Magic. While the Lakers were easily the team Howard thought about most in the summer, his desire to play for the Lakers changed after a conversation with Kobe Bryant, a source said.

Howard envisioned going to the Lakers and forming a devastating one-two punch with Bryant. But Bryant had other plans for how Howard would be incorporated into the Lakers.

Bryant told Howard that he wanted him to come to Los Angeles and help him win two more championships, but not as an understudy. He wanted Howard to be the team's third option behind himself and Pau Gasol, according to a source. Bryant tried to sell Howard on being his "Tyson Chandler" and made it clear that Los Angeles would be his, but only once Bryant decided he was done playing.

Howard was turned off by the idea.

Howard stated that there was "no way" he would give up everything he has in Orlando to go to the Lakers and be the third option, a source close to the situation said. Howard certainly wouldn’t mind being a third piece on a star-studded team, similar to the situations in Miami and Boston. However, he was turned off by Bryant's presentation as it suggested something totally different.

The feeling is so strong, in fact, that Howard's representatives have informed the Lakers that Howard would not sign an extension if they trade for him this season, according to a source. The only two teams with a realistic chance at signing Howard long-term are the New Jersey Nets and Orlando Magic.
That just doesn't sound real

Yea that fuck the players! While we're at it lets just get rid of free agency like the old days!! You get drafted, you're fucked.

PS. People say athletes are greedy and you're pissed that players would be LESS greedy to play on a winning team.
:spideypalm:
only 8 teams have won the championship in the last 30 years, all big market teams except san antonio. Hard for a smaller market team to be a "winning team" if they can't keep their great players. I guess if I was a fan of the knicks though I'd be all for letting players choose where they want, cuz you're at least going to get looked at.

The only people that don't realize the NBA is in shit are the large market fans.

But like I've said time and time again, the lack of competition in the league has nothing to do with the "super team.". Very few teams won before the notion of the super team.

In a sport where there are so few players on the court/roster, there will always be few competitors the few stars that the league has have a much larger impact than they do on the NFL and the MLB. Not to mention that the talent level of the NBA skimpily can't support this many teams. The drafts being weak for the past few years hasnt helped matters much.

I think while the term "super team" may be relatively new, the league has always fallen victim to that type of team.

I also don't buy the "league doesn't have enough talent" argument. The leagues talent isn't distributed well.

But we have had this exact convo like 20 times, and I don't feel like having it again.

tough shit, then. When you get a great player in the draft, build around him. Do your best to win while you have him.

exactly. detroit isnt a huge market but we arent small, and im all for superstars leaving if you havent gotten over the hump.. it all boils down to the teams management.

You don't see all these guys like JR Smith, Kenyon Martin, Gilbert Arenas, etc etc etc trying to decide between teams like Philly, Indiana, Atlanta, Denver, Utah, etc etc do you?

No you don't, and that's why it's so hard for teams not named the Heat, Bulls, Clippers, Lakers, and yes I'll even throw the Knicks in there (am I missing anyone) to compete for a title.

Just saying "it's all on management" it way way wayyyyyyyy to simple.

if you draft a young rising star then its up to you to build your team around that player. if you cant get it done in four years then it really is your fault.

How many teams have successfuly built around their stars though? It's nearly impossible, like I said, just putting it on management is way too simple. Too much blame is placed on management, nobody wants to play in small markets.

I wouldn't say CLE with Lebron because he left, the Hornets had some successful times but Chris left, Dwight is as good as gone, Melo, Amare, DWill, Bosh, hell you can ALMOST add DWade to that list, Miami just got lucky. Who am I missing? There is also a nice little collection of older vets that bolted town. That's eight guys right there, and here's the best part, they all play for only FIVE teams, and that number could soon be only 4. So eight players, eight teams, and that number will arguably cut in half. Come on. And Chicago has been able to build around DRose only because they are a large market and they have a great history. And it's probably only a matter of time before the really young guys start wanting to get out of town.

At some point these "stars" will have to realize that they and their buddies can't all play for 1/4 of the league.

they arent a large market. they have a great history though. chicago built around rose because they had the money too. if you draft a young star who can be huge you need to do your all to build around him. he cant go out and ask people to join his team if his team isnt trying to do their best to clear space or makes trades. it does all boil down to the upper office. i really cant see how you deny that. how can a player turn a team around? if he gets more control youll bash him, if he leaves over time youll bash him.

Chicago is the third largest city in the US behind only New York and LA.

:duhfuck:

And do you really think teams aren't doing every little thing they can to surround their stars with other players? Come on Rob, Chris Paul asked Melo to join him in NOLA and he laughed at him. Cleveland let Lebron have a say in the roster and he STILL left. Management can try all they want, these players already know where they will play and where they won't play, and sadly as we've seen with Chris and Dwight the list of where they will play is MUCH smaller than where they won't play.

chicago is in the same market as detroit is. im not talking about actual size but city appeal. players will go to la, ny, miami, before chicago.

you arent getting it. lebron had a say but did the team go out and get those players? did they try their hardest that whole four years they knew he was leaving? they could have had amare and didnt go for him(according to rumors). the players will leave if the teams arent doing their best to win. i cant believe you dont blame them. im going to play where i have the best chance to win.
