Wow, I didn't believe it all this time but Cashman is standing firm with that "I've only got $2M left to spend" story. I stand corrected...Johnny Damon is most likely going back to Oakland for a 1-year, $5M deal.

Watching the Top 50 prospects on MLB Network, hopefully Fernando Martinez is on the list. I dont think so though cuz he's already played in the majors.

I was watching before, had to come upstairs. Martinez isn't on the list because of his service time. One of the "guidelines" they set was that the player had to have rookie status.

Oh ok, that makes sense. Damn the Rays got a lot of good prospects.

Brewers signed OF Jim Edmonds to a minor league contract.
Edmonds, who turns 40 in June, must be added to the major league roster by March 25 or he will be granted his release. He'll make $850,000 if he makes the roster, with a chance to make between $2-2.5 million with performance incentives. Edmonds hasn't appeared in the majors since 2008, but still proved pretty valuable, slugging 19 homers with a 937 OPS in 250 at-bats with the Cubs. One of the more underrated players in recent memory, Edmonds is just 18 home runs away from 400. It's a very nice low-risk acquisition.

The Toronto Blue Jays contacted Scott Boras today, inquiring about Johnny Damon. The Jays are in need of a lead-off type hitter and if Damon drops his price...imagine that?

Watching the Documentary Baseball on MLB Network, its actually really good. This one is about Babe Ruth and baseball in the 1920s.

I guess he'd be good. We don't really have a real lead off hitter. I'm not sure if we have a prospect that could lead off either.

Another notable signing for the Mariners:
Mariners signed OF Eric Byrnes to a one-year contract.

The Diamondbacks are on the hook for $11 million while Byrnes will almost certainly make the major league minimum with Seattle. The 33-year-old outfielder isn't going to be an everyday player anymore, but something will have to give in an outfield/designated hitter situation that also includes Michael Saunders, Ken Griffey Jr. and Milton Bradley. Byrnes has batted just .218/.271/.382 over the past two seasons since landing his big contract.
Too bad Byrnes is garbage at this point in his career.

He was one of those crazy-crashing into walls, diving for short pops-type of outfielders. Injuries got the best of his career after age 30.

* * Orlando Cabrera signs a 1-year/$3M deal with the Cincinnati Reds

* * 3B Melvin Mora signs a 1-year/$1.3M deal with the Colorado Rockies

* * Dodgers are trying like hell to sign Reed Johnson, talking to Garrett Anderson as well

* * Apparently, Gary Sheffield is deciding between 2 teams to sign with...shocking b/c I didn't think there were 2 teams even interested in him at this point.

* * A's are "over" their desire to sign Johnny Damon and are expected to sign OF Gabe Gross within the next day or so
