I don't think the Pelicans were trying to contend, but I do agree.
If they weren't trying to contend then I don't understand any of their moves, like why not continue to be bad for a few years and get lottery picks

I wouldn't call it rushing to contend. The first Cavs era and the current Pelicans roster could only dream of having a Westbrook caliber player next to their young franchise star.
The timelines and of Russ and KAT just doesn't make any sense together

oh, he definitely would not sign with us as a UFA. Our only shot for him is by trading for him while he's under contract, and then trying to sign him

And I disagree with the 2nd part. Yeah he wants to be The Guy, but he's incredibly competitive. He's the closest competitor we've had since Prime Kobe. He absolutely wants to win. I really don't see him signing in LA without confirmation from another player like Blake that he's following Russ there.
he doesnt have a winning attitude. wanting to win and doing what the team needs, is completely different. i LOVE kobe but look what his team's did when it was just him.

also, piggy backing off of what buzzy said; i think he'd rather be the guy in la. being the best in okc is not the same as being the guy who took over kobes throne.

Win basketball games to get attention, sell tickets, ultimately make as much money as they can in a short period of time.

Took a team with smush parker kwame brown chris mihm in the starting 5 to an 8th seed and almost took out the suns, the same suns that had the 'mvp' that year and the same suns who had won 60+ games. Took em to a 7 game series. That roster is brutal man, especially in the west.

If OKC is trading Westbrook Id be shocked if they didn't want to rebuild

Bradley, Smart, Jaylen, RJ, Young and the BKN pick is what the deal would most likely be -- leaving Boston with the following:

Westbrook - Isaiah - Crowder - Horford - Amir
Rozier - Nader - Jerebko - Olynyk - Mickey

It kills our bench but to upgrade the starting line from Bradley to Westbrook is immense offensively, and stays the same on defense
Lets be honest that package isn't even close to landing Westbrook, that package outside of the overdrafted Jaylen wasn't good enough to move up from pick 16 on draft night.  I'm curious how you think it's landing you Westbrook?

I mean that guy has a point, RJ Hunter, James Young, Marcus Smart, all trash. Bradley is a solid role player, but fairly useless to a rebuild. The deal essentially comes down to Jaylen Brown and the Brooklyn pick, which is not terrible, but also not ideal when moving Westbrook.

Sorry -- I was literally falling asleep at the time and lacked the energy to write anything other than lol at that time

Everything you wrote just makes it clear that you don't understand anything. First off, we never tried to move up from 16. The plan was to take Jaylen third if we didn't trade the pick and then draft two Euros that we could stash away with the other picks. We didn't trade away the pick (because lol Chicago was asking for a ransom) so we took Jaylen.

And it's hardly an overdrafting -- he has the highest peak potential among those drafted after the Top 2. He might not be as ready as some like Dunn, but after looking at these Summer League games we definitely made the right decision. Jaylen's on ball defense has been very good, as he forces a lot of turnovers defensively as well as contesting shots fairly well. And offensively he leads all those in Summer League in FT attempts despite missing two games. He's not a great shooter but he's hitting more and more as we go. And knowing the fact that we are overly crowded at the guard position with Isaiah, Avery, Smart, and Rozier it makes perfect sense to target the SF over the PG. I can guarantee you've looked zero at Jaylen Brown and are just going off media expectations. Nice -- I can't wait for you to be wrong as fuck.

As for Westbrook, I've said this many times. He's a UFA. Nobody is going to trade for him without the assurance that he'll stay. I'd be incredibly shocked if he wanted to play on a Lakers team with Luol Deng and Jordan Clarkson as his best teammates (the Lakers wouldn't have the cap to sign anybody else). You have to find a team that is willing to give up assets yet would have Westbrook re-sign with them as well. It's a very short list, and that's why Boston's offer is currently at the top. I've said already it's not the best package teams could offer, but Westbrook isn't signing a max contract in Minnesota bruh. OKC knows he won't re-sign (otherwise they aren't trading him, period) so they aren't going to let him walk for zero value. And teams aren't going to give up their stars unless he'll re-sign.

Bradley, Smart, Jaylen, and both BKN picks are about as good as you'll get for him, unless he for some reason wants to play in Minnesota (contradicting his desire for a big market) or the Lakers (contradicts his competitive drive)

But please, continue on being so ignorant. Obviously Boston "wins" that trade. But OKC is in a tough situation and is going to have to sell Westbrook for less than what he's worth

if westbrook wont commit, okc has zero leverage and they pretty much have to take whatever offer they like best.

That's my point. Westbrook owns too much leverage to make it fair compensation for the Thunder. No team, not even the Celtics, are going to trade for Westbrook without an extension in place or a commitment to sign in FA. So literally the list is already narrowed down to teams Westbrook would be okay going to. And of that, Boston has the best offer of rebuilding. It's really that fucking simple.
