Embiid having face surgery, which doesn’t seem ideal but for him I’m just glad it’s not something more serious

If he's that highly regarded he can probably hire an agent and start getting endorsements, so money will come one way or another

With what weve seen in these investigations one would think he could easily make more at college. Maybe its not about the money for him? Maybe school just isnt for him and he doesnt want to waste his time there. Kinda like Ben Simmons who didnt care to be at college at all
I think youre overreacting when you say he could make more in college. Isnt Ayton the only guy linked to more money than that? Maybe one or two more. Most players arent doing that. Plus if he were caught, hed be ineligible to play anyways.

I think the not wanting to go to school thing is possible, although you only have to stay eligible for one semester basically if you know you are going OAD. I think he probably needs the money too.

I think stuff like what Ayton got is more common than what has been reported. Recently I saw a tweet about Bagley’s family going from $44k in debt to living in a $750k home. There’s stories of Reggie Bush’s parents getting a house. Now this guys isn’t as good as those guys (though still a top 10 recruit) so I would be shocked if he couldn’t get 30k if he’s desperate for the money. And yea if he’s caught he would be ineligible but if he’s going OAD that really shouldn’t be a concern as he’ll be able to play the entire year and NBA teams won’t care about that.

Maybe he he just wants to focus on basketball? I don’t know there’s probably a lot going on here

Bagleys situation I think comes from his dad coaching his AAU team and that team gaining a Nike sponsorship. A pretty unique case

The NBA has the worst and most meaningless regular season of all sports. Were only a few weeks away from the good stuff though.

Its the only sport where the regular season isnt even necessary. Just 82 exhibition games until the playoffs

Fair point, I just think there's plenty of avenues for guys as talented as Bazley to receive more than $26k through the college route. Frank Kaminsky did an interview on Pardon My Take a week or two ago and mentioned how guys in the league would brag about how much money they got, and said he was offered money but didn't accept it. I think College ball is dirtier than you're making it out to be here, but may not be as dirty as I think it is.

Then there's this:

Maybe he really wants to start some sort of change, but this kinda sounds like the way an advisor/agent would spin this decision

“If I couldn’t vote for myself, I think it would be between Ben and Donovan,’’ Markkanen said. ‘‘But with Donovan leading [the Jazz] in scoring, and if they make the playoffs in the West, that will be kind of tough not to vote for him. At the same time, Ben’s averaging, what, 16, eight and eight?’’

“I mean, I wouldn’t count Simmons as a rookie just because he had the year of NBA experience even though he didn’t play, but he is counted, so I guess there’s nothing to do about that,’’ Markkanen said.

Thats whats up

Simmons is a rookie
I'm sick of people saying he shouldn't be eligible

You know what maybe that's right and he shouldn't be a rookie

but until they fix the language, he's a 2018 rookie
