Teams can counter small ball with big guys if they want to. But 3's are worth more than 2's
A lot of it has to do defensively too. If your bigs can cover the perimeter it is easier to mitigate the difference, but there aren't a ton of those bigs out there that are good perimeter defenders and can score inside

But yeah, threes are just too much. Teams would need to shoot 9.6% better from two to make the two and three equal in weight. That difference, while not right away seeming gigantic, is roughly the same gap as it is from 1959's shooting numbers to now. It's never going to happen

You're talking about no defense being played in todays game, yet you're glorifying an era without zone defense

They figured the rockets launch 50 threes a game so might as well throw them on there for more fun

See this I disagree with

Shaq couldn't be stopped in his career, and he definitely couldn't be stopped today. This is the lone difference between what we've been debating so far

Someone like Embiid looks like the next prodigal big man, or at least one of them, in the league -- but he's only hitting 49.5% of his two-point shots.
Shaq was a career 58.3% shooter from two, and from 2000-2011 he averaged 74.8% from 0-3 feet from the hoop. For equivalency thats a 39.8% and 49.8% three point shooter respectively

Prime Shaq in today's league wouldn't have the defensive value that he really had, but offensively he'd still dominate (and I'd argue possibly even dominate more)

pace has changed
Teams would just run and get him tired and his effectiveness would go down some
