NBA Trade Rumors: Carmelo Anthony To Detroit Pistons Could Become Next Eastern Contender; Brandon Jennings As Trade Chip

The New York Knicks rebuilding program seems to be on the right track and the Detroit Pistons are also a team on the rise.
Both teams could become stronger, as the Knicks have younger talent to build around and the Pistons seem to be one star short to becoming a legitimate contender.

Bill Simmons noted on his Reddit AMA that despite his denials, Carmelo Anthony is willing to leave New York for a more competitive team. While this is predicated on the Knicks being awful (and they're not) there are options where Melo can make a contender-like the Detroit Pistons.

If the Chicago Bulls are hesitant to pull a trade, the Detroit Pistons could present themselves as a worthy option. The New York Knicks, with the sudden development of Kristaps Porzingis, could add more pieces around him and possibly attract a marquee free agent. Something they could not do if Carmelo Anthony was around.
A recent thread on Real GM forum discussed a possible Pistons-Knicks swap. The Detroit Pistons have emerged as a playoff team in the East behind Reggie Jackson and Andre Drummond. If you add Carmelo Anthony, that could be the East's new Big Three.

A combination of Brandon Jennings, as the Knicks need a point guard, prized rookie Stanley Johnson and Ersan Ilyasova would make a great haul for the Knicks. The Pistons could also throw in a first round pick.

For the Pistons, they already have their point guard for the future in Reggie Jackson and while they really like Stanley Johnson, if there's an opportunity for them to contend now, they should take that opportunity,

The way Jackson and Drummond are playing, adding Anthony to that combination and being coached by Stan Van Gundy will make the Pistons a legitimate threat to LeBron and the Cavs. That could be something that would make Melo consider waiving his "No Trade clause."

Ryan Anderson is averaging 19 a game on 48% shooting from the field and 39% from three. I love how he is being utilized in this system, which anyone could have seen coming from a mile away. 28.3 points on 56% shooting from the field and 46.9% shooting from three over the last four.

I also dont think Jackson, Melo, and Drummond would actually be a threat to the Cavs hegemonic position in the East.

The Knicks should be able to get a much better haul than that if they really wanted to move Melo.

that isnt enough unless they just straight want to get rid of him; which they should. we wouldnt even offer that. if we did make an offer, id rather send kcp. dont want to give up on sj yet.

this team does need a true #1 option though. the knicks need to get real young talent too.

I'm not sure how it would work, but the Celtics could use some offensive fire power.

Not sure they want that contract though, but on the other hand they aren't really rebuilding. They have no up coming stars or anything. They need one of the Nets picks to turn into a star to really have something going forward, otherwise they're stuck.

that trade actually hurts us more. we have no bench already, and we'd need to send one of our key bench pieces and someone who should help us off the bench when he's cleared. dumb

One of those teams in the Champions League is gonna be in Cleveland. If they can get Delonte West in the league I'll buy season tickets

i don't think Melo is one we'd go for, since our team is predicated on ball movement based offense and team defense, and Melo is an iso based guy

If we did go for Melo, I could see this as a potential package:

David Lee, Jonas Jerebko, James Young, 2016 BKN 1st, 2016 DAL 1st, 2017 MEM 1st, and then the worse valued between BOS/BKN in 2018

It's a large haul in picks to move, but it allows you to keep Smart. Melo then becomes the starting PF next to Amir

Wonder if kerr steps down. Feel like he will
I mean he was phx gm for like 2 years before he got tired and quit. If he does, Luke is the long time Warriors coach. The new Pat Riley inheriting a great roster (pat was the lakers tv announcer and after magic got westhead fired, pat took over a loaded roster)

But if he doesnt
Looks like the lakers, rockets, wolves, MAYBE wizards as spots for Luke if hes ready to leave Oakland

Im way ahead of myself I know, just some monday night thoughts
