Most of Teddy's bad throws come from when he has to throw deep to the outside quadrants. Not as big of a problem between the hashes imo.

I'm thinking the Browns best bet, and they guy Shannahan want's is Teddy though.

Farmer just had an interview, and that question was actually posed. Said he'll hear what Shanny has to say, but ultimately Pettine and himself are making the decision.

Also said this:

Q: If you had to pick a quarterback tomorrow, do you have your man?

A: Yes, I do. I've studied the quarterbacks and I've studied other players, and I've already started to formulate the rank and order of each position. I do know what I'd do if I was held down at the moment. It doesn't mean that can't change, but I currently have somebody in front.

Q: Will you draft a quarterback?

A: I don't think we have to do anything. The charge is to get it right regardless of which position. (But) I there are players in this draft who can help us at that position and dependent upon where they're at and where we're at, if the two can match up, we can be in good shape. I just don't know if we're going to have the opportunity to take those players.

Q: The guy you have in mind, would you take him at No. 4?

A: I'd say that No. 4 is not necessarily where I would take the guy that I like. Again, it may not be the name that everybody thinks is the latest, greatest, and the easy one to spot. There's definitely an art to selecting people in the draft and it's finding the right name that fits who you want to be.

Q: Do the coaches and scouts know who your No. 1 quarterback is?

A: I haven't revealed to many people who that person is that I may like. I think it's an interesting debate. If I were to say 'I like player A' I don't know if it poisons the pool. I'll let everybody else have the conversations before I comment. They might say 'I like player A too' instead of giving honest feedback.

Interesting. Yeah I think if Shanny had his pick it'd be Teddy. But that's very interesting. Almost makes me think Aaron Murray, but that's just looking at fits for Shanny's offense. Not sure if Farmer is factoring that in, but you'd think he would have to.

EDIT
Maybe Fales or Garoppolo? Boyd? That interview raises more questions than it answers lol.

I don't think Shannahan is as strict on sticking to one system as you seem to think. He's won games doing different things with RG3 & Matt Schaub. I think the basics of his scheme would be West Coast, but I think more so than most, he'll scheme around what he has. Even said in his press-conference in reference to a question asking if he needed a mobile QB, or someone specific, that the Pistol isn't something that he normally uses, it just made sense to incorporate it with RG3 for read option purposes.

I understand his flexibility, but I don't think he's suddenly going to use a vertical passing system or something completely different. I think the fundamentals will stay the same: play action, timing, and QB movement (rolls, boots etc). Unless the whole "wouldn't pick him at 4th" thing is a smoke screen, you can rule out Teddy, Bortles, and Manziel. Carr isn't a timing QB, and is much more suited for a vertical passing team IMO, and obviously so is Mettenberger. So that leaves Fales, Murray, Garoppolo, McCarron, maybe Brett Smith?

EDIT
I like Carr in a vertical offense if he can develop his pocket presence and poise, but he definitely could be an option for the Browns.

I'm going to guess he's just blowing smoke, cause that'd be a horrific first move as GM to give away your draft plans lol

I don't want to do a full mock until after the combine, but I wanted to knock out a Top 10, so as of now this is how I see it going. Still need to familiarize myself with each teams personnel and systems some more, so this is kind of preliminary right now.

You don't think they'd pass on Johhny for Clowney + a QB later that they like?

I have no clue, they'll probably do something stupid.

Doubt Barr ends up going top 10. His stock is falling.

Although, I'm not all that high on him either.

He has plenty of time to wow at the combine. It's still early. Also why I have Lee and Ebron in there, I think they'll rise.

I think I would rather take Tajh Boyd or Logan Thomas in that 3-5 range rather than David Fales or Jimmy Garoppolo, simply because of potential. You're going to have to develop all of these guys anyways, but Boyd and Thomas have a lot more potential. Fales I think is a good career backup, kind of like Matt Moore. I still might have Garoppolo higher than Boyd and Thomas, I still need to evaluate more, but this is what my gut is telling me right now.

I like Garoppolo and Fales more than most, but I agree. I think Thomas ends up going on day 2 or early day 3 at the latest. One team is gonna fall in love with him. I don't like Boyd as much but I could see him rising a bit as the process goes on.

Boyd probably won't rise, but the physical tools he has are undeniable, and you know how coaches are. Someone will take a late pick on him and try to mould him for the future. He's got leadership and competitiveness going for him too. But the mental aspect and his mechanics are a mess. If I had to guess, maybe St. Louis or the Jets could take a stab at him for the future if their guys don't work out. Maybe Carolina as a nice backup for Cam, as was reported.

But yeah, I think Thomas could go in the 3-4 range. It only takes one team.

What do you like about Fales and Garoppolo?

Garoppolo has a way better arm and is more consistently accurate but Fales is pretty dang savvy under center. He's a smart guy, but unfortunately he just doesn't quite have the arm, and his accuracy is a little too inconsistent for what he brings to the table for me. I wish Garoppolo had Fales brain, or Fales had Garoppolo's arm.

I've been high on Fales since the 2012 BYU game. He didn't really have the senior year I'd thought he'd have (his accuracy wasn't as good as his junior year) and so he's fallen on a lot of boards. I think he needs to generate more torque on his upper body when he throws and that would help his arm a bit, but I still like what I've seen despite the lackluster play this year.

Garoppolo is just toolsy, if you know what I mean. I like the quick release and the way he throws the deep ball. I think if he sits behind a QB he can learn from in a good system he can start down the line, but he definitely needs the proper schooling.

I think Marqise Lee isn't that different to Rueben Randle (maybe slightly higher upside)

#4-5 WR imo, where as most have him at #2

Ebron will go high tho. Not 10 imo, but top 16
