Yanks could still sign Cano after Ellsbury

 

Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports that the Yankees signing Jacoby Ellsbury or any other outfielder would not preclude them from re-signing Robinson Cano.

Passan says Cano is "still very much in play" for the Bombers. The Yankees had given indications that they planned to keep their payroll below $189 million for luxury tax purposes, but that appears to have gone out the window. At last report, the Yankees and Cano's representatives were roughly $100 million apart in negotiations.

I doubt Kemp can be had for WMB+ and, even so, I'd rather keep the prospects for something else. I like Kemp, don't get me wrong, just don't think he's a definite need.
 
Also, if they move Boegarts, it's probably for good. They have Checchini. Why block his spot unless they absolutely have to?

Look if we think JBJ can hit well enough as a 8/9 hitter and start in CF from Day 1, I'm down. But otherwise, we need to get someone who can hit. Outside of Ortiz and hopefully Napoli (if he is brought back), we have no power hitters. Someone like an Ethier, Kemp, or Beltran; we need someone to protect Papi, especially if Napoli goes elsewhere
