I take back what I said about the Tigers saving some $$$

Dave Dombrowski: “We’re not cutting payroll.”

Dave Dombrowski isn’t shy about Tigers’ desire to sign a closer. “Our No. 1 need at this point,” he said.

If Tigers started season today – without new closer or corner bat – their payroll would be roughly $142 million. They’re still spending.

Tigers had $148.7MM Opening Day payroll this year, per Cot’s; a closer could get the Tigers right back to that number, maybe beyond it.

Fuck signing closers, just get an under valued reliever and use your cash at a more important place

If closer is your biggest "need", you're basically saying you have no relievers, or you're stupid

So you trade a valuble Starter for little value just to overpay for a closer? Grats Dumbrowski

While I would love Cano, he would command a similar contract to the one we just got out of with Prince. So it really doesn't make any sense to go after Cano.
better paying that money to a 2nd baseman than a 1B when you already had a 1B

Suppose that is a valid point.
Really do need another big bat in the lineup now.

Beane will probably flip Johnson for prospects eventually.

Beltran has three-year, $48 million offer

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that Carlos Beltran has a three-year, $48 million contract in hand from an unidentified team.

No word on who it might be from, but Olney hears that the Mariners are being aggressive. The Yankees, Tigers, Red Sox, Rangers, Orioles, and Royals have also been mentioned as possibilities for the 37-year-old, but the rising price tag could take some suitors out of the running. Beltran just finished up a two-year, $26 million deal with St. Louis.

Heath Bell going to #Rays. Trade with #Reds, #DBacks required approval from commissioner’s office, meaning more than $1M involved.

via Ken Rosenthal.

Bell will be great again.

Enjoy it while it lasts. He's coming back home when Remy retires.
