There's a rumor going around that Demps and Ujiri are talking about a trade for Demar Derozan.
Masai will find a way to get AD lol. If we trade DeRozan I hope we get some decent value back though... he's been great lately... Especially getting to the line

What would the Hornets even offer? They don't have their first round pick this year, the Raptors aren't going to take on either Gordon or Tyreke's contract, and Austin Rivers isn't even close to enough.

edit: I said Hornets. Pierre the Pelican will strike down on me with great vengeance.

true. Thinking Masai is trying to collect a 2nd first rounder for this season. Didn't know NO didn't have their pick.

From how I understood it, Ujiri is in complete tear down mode with the roster after the mess Colangelo left it in. It's been in the media, everyone is available. Lowry, DeRozan, Gay obviously. Everyone but Jonas Valanciunas, who Ujiri wants to build that roster around. And they want to build around him by dumping salary, and the Colangelo guys, and basically starting from scratch with just a shit ton of cap room and Valanciunas.

They want to dump salary, but Demar can net them at least one first round pick to go with a salary dump. And how many ball dominant guards do the Pelicans need?

DeRozan isn't going to simply be any salary dump though in my eyes. He has value. Lowry doesn't need to be traded either because it's the last year on the deal but I can imagine Ujiri trying to get something for him.

They might get a late first, but that would also likely include taking back salary, which they do not want to do. Besides, I don't think anyone would trade anything but a late first for DeRozan. I've said it before, those first rounders are 10x more valuable now than they were during the last CBA, and very rarely will a team trade one basically seven months before the draft takes place.

As for the ball dominate guards, we have Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans, and Austin Rivers. Rivers would be going in the deal, so that would leave Holiday, Gordon, and Evans. Holiday isn't anywhere near ball dominate, if anything he's pass first to a fault. Maybe to generous. Evans is seen as ball dominate, and he is in some ways, but he's also VERY willing to give it up, his assist rate for a 2/3 is excellent. Eric Gordon? Is there a word that puts greater emphasis on ball dominate? He isn't giving it up, but I'm not sold he would be around long enough to get to know DeRozan if this trade did happen, which I don't think it will btw.

Even then, I'm not sure it wouldn't work. Think of last year's Nuggets team. Now, imagine that all those guys were put together coming right off their best seasons. Chandler was great in NY, Iggy is a USA team member, Gallo had some lights out seasons, Ty Lawson is a beast, Andre Miller was still a very effective player. Add to that, Fournier was coming into his own, and so on. Now if they were all put together at once, people would have thought, "no way that will work. Too many guys need the ball. Not enough minutes, etc." But it did work. That team got 57 wins and did not have a Anthony Davis. Same could go for this team imo. 144 minutes to spread around between the 1, 2, and 3 position. Four guys to give those minutes to that all could play at a high level. That is 36 minutes for each, theoretically. Plenty of time. All of them can play multiple positions, and the ability to sub them in and out can keep them fresh and allow them to play at a fast pace. I think it could work, but the team would have to play in an all out blitz mode like Denver, which kind of fits how this roster is already.

Essentially you're looking at a fire sale in Toronto.
