    2018 MLB Season Thread

I saw the Orioles play a game in Minneapolis a while back and it looked like Machado was just going through the motions, rather than playing his hardest.  He appeared to be trying to avoid injuring himself.  By the way, Lance Lynn looked really good for the Twins that night and Bundy looked...

    Machado to Dodgers

The deal was "done", but the Orioles would have taken a better offer had one come up.  They did pretty well, and the Dodgers didn't have to give up their best prospects.

At least they got something for Familia.

l also like to see complete players -- those that can pitch and hit, but how can one justify having a nearly guaranteed out in the batting order with so many decent bats waiting in AAA?

A couple of prospects that don't look too bad.  Toffey is a young 3B:  https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=toffey000wil And Wahl has appeared in the bigs, but is still considered a prospect:  https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=wahl--001rob

    Matheny out in St Louis

The Cardinals have underachieved a bit this season and it has cost Mike Matheny his job.  There was speculation last night on the broadcast that Yadi Molina may get the nod as a player-manager next season.  Not sure he's ready for this sort of gig, but he should be a manager sometime soon.

    Hand to Cleveland for Meija

Good move for both teams.  Hand will help stabilize what has been a rather porous bullpen in Cleveland and Mejia should start behind the plate for the Padres very soon.

Watching Cleveland/Yankees game.  Cleveland needs some bullpen help.  Stanton hit a "nothing" fastball 104 MPH, 388 to right center.

Will Buck Showalter last out the season as the Orioles skipper?  I saw the Twins beat the Orioles last night and it looked like the O's team had given up and weren't even trying to win a game.

Until such time as there is a hard salary cap in baseball, teams like Minnesota, Kansas City, the Reds, and the other "small" market teams will not be able to maintain excellence for the duration.  Teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, etc can go out and buy talent when they need it.  If the...

The Yankees have always had the Twins number, but the Twins have made the post season a lot of times.  You don't get to the post season by being lucky or having a minor league roster.  You get there by playing as a team and not pointing fingers at each other when errors happen.  You get to the...

You are right.  The Twins do not have a lot of marquee names on their roster.  They play as a team, however.  Eduardo Escobar leads the AL in extra base hits (32 doubles).  Dozier is not hitting yet, but he will.  Mauer is on the downhill side of his career.  Rosario is having a breakout...

Nor am I sure what point you're trying to make, other than to make an ass out of yourself again.  Ask Sale, Price, Kluber and Carasco if the Twins have a minor league roster.  They clearly outplayed the Indians and the Red Sox in 4 of 5 games.  To lose to a minor league team is embarrassing, but...

The Twins may have a "minor-league" roster, but they have beaten the Red Sox twice in a row (beating Sale and Price) and the Indians 2/3.  They were clearly the better team in both of these games. For the Red Sox to only get an unearned run off a "minor-league" roster is embarrassing.  Perhaps...

I heard on the broadcast last night that some are upset that Nimmo is always smiling.  Why would a major league ballplayer not want to smile?  That is one of the dreams of nearly every kid in this country.

    Melky Cabrera DFA'd

To very few people's surprise.  He was a product of steroids.  Now that he has to be clean, he has a lot of trouble playing the game.

    Miggy out for season

Tough news for baseball fans to hear.  Miggy is one of the genuine "good guys" in the game and will be missed by all fans.  I wish him the best with his surgery, which will likely take place in the next couple of weeks once the swelling subsides.  He should be back next year.

10-day DL.  Possibly headed for Tommy John.  This would not be good news for the Angels.  They are playing very well this season and he has been a huge part of their success.  He could possibly be back as a hitter at the start of spring training next year, but would not be ready to pitch until...

    PEDs

In my opinion, any team with a player suspended for PEDs should have to play a man short for the duration of the suspension.  In other words, play with 24 players on the roster, rather than 25.  That will make clubs take PEDs a bit more seriously.  Cano was not the only player suspended this...
