Batting average isn't important when Bautista crushed Ellsbury in OBP by 70 points. RBIs aren't a great stat for comparisons. Having better team mates getting on base in front of you, and hitting with runners in scoring position is not a skill at all. Not to mention, with runners in scoring position Bautista hit .252 with a .519 OBP because no one would pitch to him when people were in scoring position.

Ellsbury stole more bases, he's faster, but that shouldn't be a deciding factor, considering Bautista beat him in pretty much every major batting category aside from that and batting average, and again, the average doesn't matter that much considering he gets on base at a considerably higher rate.

Total bases? Shut up, seriously.

Defense he is better but it doesn't come close to making up for the offensive gap.

I'll give you RBIs are irrelevant when talking about cleanup hitters. But Jacoby wasn't hitting cleanup. He was usually leadoff. Not like he was knocking in Pedroia, Ortiz, or Gonzalez.

Not that Jacoby deserved it over Bautista but I don't think you can just write off Jacoby's RBIs. He deserves some credit there.

Because his average with runners in scoring position was off the charts, which is why to me, the stat doesn't mean much, just because he managed to hit better with runners in scoring position, then in other situations.

Also to add on, and for comparison's sake, Ellsbuy had 123 at bats with runners in scoring position, while Bautista only had 110.

Avg OBP for the 7-8-9 hitters for BOS (JE hits 1st): .305

Bautista had a better chance of getting RBIs than Ellsbury did

I'm glad JV won it, but I was hoping Cabby would get MVP. I had a feeling Bautista and Ellsbury wouldn't because they weren't on playoff teams. Yes, that's idiotic, but that's how they tend to do it anymore. Yes, i'm still bitter with last year Hamilton over Cabby, so that gave me the feeling it was either going to be JV, Cabby, or Grandy. It's MVP on a playoff team anymore, not necessarily the best players in the league. Which will show when Braun gets NL MVP over Kemp. It's a bit ridiculous anymore.
