NBA Off-Season Discussion Thread

Unlike you guys, and every other team in the LBJ hunt, we're still in decent shape for the future without a big time FA. We were actually smart enough to dump all of the dead weight while keeping our core. Meanwhile, if STAT is all the Knicks get, then another decade like this one is plausible for them.

BTW LeBron James was 12 years away from birth during those "Knick glory years" so maybe you (if you were even alive back then), could walk him through those glory years at "the mecca for basketball".

Nah dont bomb out with a "we're pretty set for the future" now, your coming off a 12 win season right? with big hopes of getting a big name FA right? Lebron? Wade? Bosh? Amare? Booz? and you about to head into the season with the same damn roster.... FOO!

And Im 21 years old, I remember watching Knick games with Alllan Houston, Sprewell, Ewing, not old enough to vividly remember Oak, Mase and Starks but I remember. Dont try me young one.

Im not going to try to change ya'll mind, believe what you want, but in the eyes of BASKETBALL FANS as a whole we are historic.

Of course playing in NY plays a part, no historic NBA franchise plays in a small market, thats just how it is.

The whole factor of them being historic is so overrated in signing FAs.. The Knicks are the only team who is offering Amare the full max, which is why he is going to sign there. Melo want's to play their because he is from New York.. No one is going to go out of their way to play for the Knicks because of what they did 20 years ago, maybe role players, but that's about it.

Ill agree with that, but when it comes to playing in the city of NY, being around all the hoopla of NY, appeals to players.

Noone can say it wont appeal to them, their still young guys, with millions and to take that and couple it with the possibility to play in a player friendly offensive system, and become apart of history (regardless if you feel we're a historic franchise or not) and revitalize the Knicks its.....appealing.

We had virtually no coach last season. Now we have two former COY's on the staff in Johnson and Mitchell. Prokhorov is one of the most established businessmen in the world with limitless funds. Ratner was a proven penny pincher. DH put up 17 and 7 under an injury plagued season. Lopez faced nightly double teams and still found time to put up 19 and 9. T-Will was the best all-around rookie in the league in the final months of last season (triple-double with 27 points in a win against the Bulls who needed that game to secure a playoff spot sooner). CLee who hit his threes at a 36% clip and played solid man defense. Favors, DJames and Zoubek should provide the toughness in the paint that was sorely missed last year. We didn't gut our roster of a core that we plan to develop. LBJ would help us win now, but unlike you guys, we don't need to make a splash this year in FA. It would be nice, but not essential to our organization. The Amare signing was purely out of desperation to attract LBJ or Wade. 100 million on a medical anomaly? Nice one.

I would be fine with DLee as long as we don;t give him the MAX. We had Yi last week, so I know when to count my blessings. Especially when we didn't gut our roster like the Knicks and Heat who are absolutely screwed if none of the big three signs with either.

Yeah Melo was born in Brooklyn, but grew up in BMore, tbh I dont know what to think about the Melo rumors though since he has West Baltimore tatted on him.

I think the Knicks are a historic team as well, but I feel that its way overblown in a lot of peoples eyes. It hasnt been as successful as people make it out to be as well. But at the end of the day there are only a handful of teams that are trully great franchises.

You have nice young pieces, yes, but the fact remains you won just 12 games last year.

Amare's contract offer has made us a player for LeBron, Wade and even Bosh when before it looked as if we would bomb out,

bad contract? yes, but a GREAT tactical move....

Walsh knew LeBron likes Amare's game, get another all-star and then NY becomes even more enticing.

As for Amare's health, take his 2nd half/playoff performances at then end of last year and tell me you would be worried about how well he's able to perform.

I dont understand how a team that won 12 games, LOST the lottery, and will LOSE in free agency has a better situation than a team who won more games and is about to sign a big free agent, lol.

Most of us are too young to remember the glory days back in the late 60's and from the lat 80's to mid 90's

You cant base our performance within the last 10 years on how we fare as a franchise as a whole, you have to include EVERYTHING

KG can't lead a team by himself, so yea that was a mistake on his part, but LeBron can lead a team.. Not to mention we didn't win the title because LeBron quit on his coach against the Celtics.
