Statistically, Varejao is easily the best center in the league right now. The Cavs would laugh at any offer that didn't include the Raptors pick and at least one young prospect.
And that's precisely why no deal will be made. And honestly, even with how well he is playing, Varejao isn't worth a lotto pick and a prospect.

The only center in the league I'd take over Varejao is Dwight, I think it's pretty clear he's #2 with Bynum being sidelined.

A breakout 16 game sample size at 30 doesn't make someone the second best center in the league

contracts aside, id rather have hibbert, mcgee, tyson chandler, and of course gmoe. aldridge, bosh, and kg if you count them, too.

I'm not looking for an opinion from the guy who was unwilling to admit Varejao is a great rebounder earlier this season.

He's always had this ability, btw. Injuries sidelined him and Mike Brown never featured him or let him actually contribute on offense. He's a wonderful passer, incredibly good at finishing around the rim for a guy who lacks elite athleticism and added a mid range jumper to his game, combine that with his already great defense, hard to find many better.

Now only if you could make him 25 instead of 30. Then maybe he'd have some value to the Cavs or some other team.

He has value to the Cavs, it's not like he's going to go into full decline at the age of 32. They absolutely do not have to trade him. Keeping him and Kyrie together would be fine. Great pick and roll tandem.

Would be hard to say no to getting another top 10 pick though, to go with our own, if offered.

And it's easy to be good on a bad team.

The way I see it, if you have two great players plus young guys who will start to get "it" eventually your going to fall into some wins, hurting your draft position for next season.

All because of some 30 year old who has no future with the team?

It's not as if he's stat padding and putting up huge numbers in blow outs. Most of the Cavs games have been close, especially as of late. They just haven't had their closer (Kyrie), to finish them out.

If you can't see how much Varejao impacts a game, I don't know what to tell you. He's efficient, plays great D, best offensive rebounder in the NBA, hits his FTs. Yes, it's a small sample size, but nothing he is doing looks unsustainable in the games, aside from pulling down 16 rebounds a game. That's going to eventually stop, but he's still going to be leading the league when it's all said and done.

Lotto pick to go with a bunch of cap space to try to make a splash in the off-season. The Cavs are going to try to make a jump to the playoffs next year, so yes, Varejao has immense value to this team.

Am I overrating him? Probably, but the guy is a great talent, and on top of that he actually hustles non stop in games.

The Thunder would be clear front runners for the title if they upgraded from Perk to Varejao.

and by doing that they give up players to help them in the long run for a player who will decline in the short run.

Yep, they're still the 3rd or 4th youngest team in the league. No reason to trade a bunch of their talented young guys for a 30 year old.

To actually go for it?

What if the Thunder don't win a title and Durant's contract runs out and looks back to see that the ownership group made a cost cutting move when trading away Harden, which jeopardized their shot of winning?

he would leave and his next team would end up doing the same exact thing. that happens. you dont win without taking risks, good or bad. this would be a bad one.

I think the thing with Varejao, there just isn't very many teams that will be knocking down the Cavs doors willing to give them their young players for his services.

Think about it, you have 29 teams. How many of those teams would actually be interested in him? You can rule out any young rebuilding/knocking at the door type teams. So who does that leave? Lets just say: Miami, New York, Brooklyn, Boston, Memphis, OKC, San Antonio, Clippers, Denver, Lakers? How many of those teams need bigs? You can scratch off New York, Brooklyn, Memphis, Clippers, Denver, Lakers. That leaves you with Miami, Boston, OKC, and San Antonio.

Which of those teams have "young elite level talent?" I guess you could say OKC, but is Lamb and Jones really elite level talent? I don't think so.

Maybe it just ends in Cleveland taking the best available deal for him, and it doesn't even come close to including what they want.

I doubt DA would do this, but I'd definitely do Court+Sully+Fab for Varejao.
