Eight-year extension at $30M per would increase #Tigers overall commitment to Cabrera to 10 years, $284M. Cabrera turns 31 on April 18.

I think it's going to be a little more than that..

8 year extension at $31 million per year, worth $248 million.
Already had 2 years at $44 million.

In total, 10 years at $292 million.

All I know is he's earned every contract he's gotten and I'm glad he will be a Tiger for the rest of his career.

Absolute horrific contract for a team thats window isnt really all that great, and thats including this year....

Paying him that much for his age 33-40 seasons before you even have to?

Say what you want about miguel, and yeah hes a great player, pujols was 32 when he got his angel contract

Im not saying miggy will decline as hard as albert, but thats the risk with 32, 33 year olds. But usually theyre at the end of a comtract and not beginning it

Good luck

With the way he gets his hits (not relying on homers and often going opposite field) I'm really not concerned about him declining anytime soon. Best hitter on the planet, and I'm glad he will be a Tiger for the rest of his career.

I'm not expecting a decline in the next two years or anything but that contact, not relying on homers and opposite field stuff applied to Pujols too

Anyone signed to a long ass contract like this is probably expected to decline later in the contract, but you gotta give a guy like Miggy this type of money if you're the Tigers. Like you don't hesitate with this kind of stuff.

Obviously it's worth it to the Tigers if they continue to not have any real budget, but as a small let market team fan, I'm more use to tougher financial situations and understanding when you have to just let a guy go.
