Never a good idea to invest that much money into a power hitters' post-age 30 career.  A-Rod fell off quick after the Yanks signed him to his last mega deal and while we cannot imagine it now with Miggy, it will happen.  He's not paid to just get one base, mind you...

A-Rods contract isn't really stopping the Yankees from blindly spending, even after they said they had to cut budget.

It has but it hasn't.  It didn't stop them from spending but right now their infield is a complete disaster and they're telling FA's like Stephen Drew they're too "cash strapped" to do anything.

I'm sure they feel strapped for cash when it comes to overpaying for average players who require first round compensation.
