I'll pat myself on the back and say I called Middleton "the next Ryan Anderson" last season before anyone outside of Detroit even knew his name.

Not what I meant, obviously.

Meant more a guy that quickly becomes a valuable piece or asset for his team kind of out of nowhere or unexpectedly.

How does that make him the next Ryan Anderson when there have been plenty of guys in between to do that

ryan anderson was a mid/late first round pick too. middleton was a late second rounder. i don't think they're comparable at all.

This isn't etched in stone lol, there are plenty of guys that you could use for this example just like you said. Use whoever your little heart desires. Anderson was just the first guy that came into my head last season.

I wasn't really talking about their draft positions. just more about these were two guys who's futures did not look super bright following their rookie seasons, two guys that did not have a big positive impact on bad teams. They both were moved and bigger trades as after thoughts or throw ins if you will. Then coming off less than impressive freshman and maybe even sophomore campaigns they both take off when nobody sees that coming.

When those two guys were moved in those deals nobody could or would have predicted that they were to become what they are today. Two guys that took off rather quickly.

middleton showed potential, he just didn't get time for us. not many people were happy we gave him up.
