D'Antoni is never going to win anything in this league with his system, he's had teams better than the team you're forming even if you get CP3/Deron and never won anything with it, you guys think this is going to spring you into the elite category but it won't because you don't play any defense
do you listen to what other people say? I just said I admit his system sucks because it contains 0 emphasis on defense. I honestly dont know what you're trying to prove... w/e it is, private message it to other Knicks fans who aren't bothering in this discussion. You dont need to tell me. I believe that with Melo and CP3/Deron, we're contenders.... contenders.... not champions.... just contenders. So don't preach the shit to me... preach it somewhere else.

Wasn't really directed at anyone, just thinking out loud, piggybacking off the D'Antoni talk

We would be getting Melo for 2 reasons -

1) To get fans off of Dolan's back - Melo might not be the answer to the team's prayers, but Melo saying he wants to come to NY and then not getting him would be seen as pure stupidity to the regular New York fan.

2) So that we have a legit scorer outside of Amar'e who can take the load off of him. Amar'e is the #2 scorer in the league, but even he sometimes fails to get 20 points - it'd have to be one helluva bad game for Amar'e AND Melo to be shut down.

To be honest, trading Gallo, Felton, Chandler (and the fillers) for Billups and Melo makes us WORSE. Gallinari is becoming a VERY GOOD defender. He always guards the other team's best scorer. At 6'10, he is also very versatile and offensively could be a very good #2 to Amar'e to score on kick-out 3s - plus he's also developed a very good slashing game and is getting to the line more often lately. Carmelo is an elite scorer and an alright rebounder, but his defense is actually worse than Chandler and Gallo so we get worse there. Felton >> Billups at this point, I think Billups is done being a great PG.

What it comes down to, I don't want to trade Gallinari or Felton. If anything, maybe Felton just because we signed him and we haven't put THAT much into him. Gallo, we've suffered through some bad spurts and have seen him evolve from a spot up shooter to someone I truly think can be an all star and my favorite player in the league.

If you want to make a splash, just wait until the offseason and sign Melo (or sign and trade with Chandler for Melo) and keep Fields/Felton/Gallinari on the team.

literally, at this point, Nets can have him...

RT @alanhahn: Source says if Knicks decline to include Mozgov in the package, Anthony will be traded to the Nets.
http://twitter.com/#!/KnicksFanBlog/status/39522982145560576

why do they even want Mozgov? Nene wants to STAY in Denver.... this is just absurd. Amateur hour in Denver still. Seriously, they can have him at this point. Proky basically hinted today on CNBC radio that Nets were only in it to drag the Knicks to give up more. Dont have the quote - way too many tweets to trace through it all.

But if they budge and say yeah to Mozgov, you just know Denver is coming back and saying they must include Fields... ridiculous.

Knicks drew the line in the sand today and said Mozgov, and no more. Keep the line, don't budge -- I think Denver will cave in.

I don't think Denver is caving in to anything lol, they're already winning this trade and they've had little to no leverage the entire time

and its because they know James Dolan is a moron. If he draws the line and doesn't budge from it, Denver will realize they played all their cards and it's time to finish the deal.

Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and 4 first round picks is a lot to top.. They just tell the Knicks if they say no to an offer, "fine, we'll take the New Jersey deal."

but Melo doesn't wanna play there.

1st off, they need Melo to stand up and tell the Nuggets he will not accept the contract with NJ. If he wants to be here that badly, he's gotta do it.

2nd. You gotta stop them somewhere.... Nuggets are trying to flex their muscles and act tough. You gotta grab your balls and say 'No. Take it or good day'. Its more about showing you have testicles.

If it requires mozgov, then fine. but you just KNOW if the Knicks give in to Mozgov, Denver will demand Fields. And then from there... where does it end? You see, it doesn't matter what offer is better. It matters where he's willing to sign. Their testing the Knicks' balls and Melo's patience. Testing him to see if Melo will give in to the $$.

if they could just take the offer, they would have shipped him on Friday morning. It's not that simple though.

Apparently, Melo doesn't mind anymore, because the reports say he is willing to play in New Jersey if the Knicks can't make a deal.

Apparently it's almost over:
The Nuggets appear to be closing in on a deal to trade star forward Carmelo Anthony to the New York Knicks.

The teams talked through the weekend and are working out the final details of what would be a blockbuster trade. NBA commissioner David Stern did not want a major trade announced on the day of the All-Star Game.

While final details were still being negotiated, the latest trade offer includes New York sending guard Raymond Felton, forwards Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari, centers Timofey Mozgov and Eddy Curry and a first-round draft pick to the Nuggets for Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams and Anthony Carter or Renaldo Balkman, according to NBA sources.
Major SMH at the Knicks. Giving up like their entire team for Melo (who's a very good player, but...), a 34 year old PG who's days are almost over, and a bunch of scrubs.

Felton
Chandler
Gallinari
Mozgov
Curry
First

Anthony
Billups
Williams
Carter/Balkman

I'd be PISSED if I was a Knicks fan if this deal does happen.

Im torn on it. I understand he wants to be on the Knicks.... but if the Knicks couldn't seal the trade then you just know the Nuggets would have convinced Melo to take the extension with the Nets... you can just picture it. Because you can't just sit there after all this time, and with Favors, Harris and FOUR 1st Round Picks on the table and not do everything in your power to convince him the money is worth it.

The other side is the Knicks could have waited it out till the summer, got him for less and given up nothing.

But while this is a lot, I read earlier that D'Antoni talked to Gallo and his father this morning about him potentially being traded this week. And Gallo and his father both basically said that one way or another, Gallo will find his way back to NY (2012 RFA) and will retire as a Knick.... so you know what. They give up a lot to get him, but to be honest, there's a good chance they can get him back if he wants to play for the Knicks and take a pay cut to be here.

just realized the quote isn't very "trusting". I thought for a second it was a RETweet on twitter but it wasn't.
