Nets beat writer Al Iannazzone says there is a “tentative agreement” between Denver and New Jersey on a Carmelo trade, and if he agrees to sign a contract extension with the Nets, the move will go through.

In the proposed deal, the Nuggets would get Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy, Ben Uzoh and four first-round draft picks. The Nets would get Carmelo, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Melvin Ely and Renaldo Balkman.

In case you forgot why there has been such a fuss over ‘Melo, here’s a reminder: At 26 years old, he is averaging 25.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game as one of the two or three best small forwards in the NBA and one of the League’s most dangerous clutch players. He dropped 38 points against Milwaukee on national TV two days ago, scored 42 on Dallas on national TV last week, and put up 50 points on Houston two weeks ago
If Billups gets a buyout I hope we pick him up =]

we've all been hearing that. It's far from complete though.

Knicks and Nuggets are actually in a conference call soon, involving Owners Kroenke and Dolan, GMs Ujiri and Walsh. So, unfortunately the saga continues.

Just saw Melo say he doesn't wanna be a rental because he'd have to go through the same thing all off-season. What the Nugs should do is trade him for nothing to the T-Wolves and make him suffer for the rest of the year if they can't reach a deal that they like with the Nets/Knicks

LOS ANGELES — With the Nets closing in on a tentative trade with the Nuggets that still needed Carmelo Anthony’s approval, the Knicks fought back in the hunt for Anthony tonight by increasing their offer, according to multiple sources.

The Knicks and Nuggets had extensive talks today to try to bridge what was a considerable gap, with Knicks owner James Dolan leading the push behind the scenes as the Hollywood suspense lingered into the night.

Dolan was in town for collective bargaining talks and the annual technology conference he always at´tends as part of NBA All-Star weekend.

The Knicks have offered Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry’s expiring contract and a No. 1 pick they still need to acquire for Anthony and Chauncey Billups. It’s a proposal the Nuggets are seriously considering, a Knicks source said.
“They’re still in it, definitely,” one person debriefed on the talks said.
“The Nets are serious, but it’s not been concluded.”

One Knicks source said, “We’re not out of it at all. We’re still talking.”
The new Knicks offer doesn’t include prized rookies Timofey Mozgov and Landry Fields. Reportedly, the Nuggets told the Knicks they want Gallinari over Fields.
“It’s fluid,” a second Knicks source said. “We’re trying to stay in it. We’ll know where we stand by the end of the weekend.”

Dumb they should not offer Felton. I'd live with Gallo and Chandler because then you get Melo who plays the same position, and you still have Fields who is just a rookie.

Looks like no matter whatever deal they are talking, with whatever team, that Chauncey will be involved as well. I'm agree with Charles. I'm just sick of all this.

But that is the media's fault. Carmelo said that he wants it to be over with, LeBoon made a spectacle out of it.

Exactly -- this is all about the Media's involvement in making it such a big deal. Overhyping every little rumor to come out of the floodgates.
As for the deal, I'll say this:

For right now, this is bad for the Knicks. For the future? This is great, actually. While I'd like them to be able to use a player like Gallo to trade and acquire a center or w/e who can rebound and play SOME defense, you know what, I'm okay with it. Melo's a hell of a player. You've gotta give up a little to get a lot. Let me just put it this way....

-- The Knicks' ultimate plan is: Amar'e, Carmelo, and then bring in a PG like Chris Paul or Deron Williams.

-- If that is their plan, then there is NO way Chandler, Gallo, or Felton can be a part of that plan. Why? Felton would be a bench player behind CP or Williams. And he benefits from D'Antoni's system. He'll regress immediately elsewhere. Chandler expires this year. He'd basically be the third option behind Melo and Gallo. After next season, Gallo is a restricted Free Agent. He'll get a nice big payday if you wanted to keep him -- so you'd let him walk either way, otherwise you wouldn't be able to afford you're coveted FA Point Guard of the future. Curry is an expiring, and Randolph is stuck in D'Antoni's doghouse and will probably never see the light of day in a Knicks Uni as long as players above him are healthy. This move isn't great, but it's acceptable to ensure that Melo doesn't cave in to being a Net or gets franchised by Denver under a new CBA.

This also gives them extra time to build up that team chemistry this year. I'd say write them off. They'll be a playoff team this year but not a top-4 in the East. THey'd build that chemistry this year and next year they'll be much better.

Felton was a 2-year option anyhow. Let him go if you have to.

yay, time for a bombardment of Tweets!!

James Dolan and Josh Kroenke are extremely involved in these talks. One source went so far as to say that the owners are calling the shots.
Donnie Walsh and Masai Uriji were on conference call, but their roles have diminished. Source says owners have stepped in to get this done.
[twitter]AlexKennedyNBA[/twitter]

Denver still prefers NJ's package to NY's increased offer, because "They think picks have more value than the players," league source says.
Still, it will come down to Denver owner Stan Kroenke's decision to OK Knicks offer and give 'Melo what he wants: $65M and the Knicks.
For Denver, potential of Derrick Favors is still an intriguing lure. Josh Kroenke and Masai Ujiri did the work, but Stan will make the call.
If nothing else, Nets getting back into mix forces Knicks to pay a steeper price for Melo. Which is why they thought this was a win-win.
As much as Amar'e wants Melo in NY, he's completely against gutting the roster to get him, sources say. He knows it takes a balanced roster.

yep.... I am that bored... lol.

Guarantee the Nuggets played the Nets into thinking that Melo actually wanted to go there just so the Knicks would feel pressured and offer more

probably, but it could also (doubtful but possible) that Prohkorov knew all along Melo didn't want to be a Net. I mean, think of it....... he was hours away from meeting Melo back in January to find out if he could make the trade for him, and then backed out. Now he comes back in.... Prohkorov and Dolan have NOT gotten along very well ever since Proky bought the Nets. They have literally been at each other's throats. I mean for Christ's Sake he had this put up across the street from MSG:

I believe there is some possibility, that Proky knew this week it wasn't gonna happen and that the best thing to do was to make Dolan pull his teeth out and cough up blood to get Melo to NY.

Mikhail Prokhorov released a statement on Saturday saying that he has not met with Carmelo Anthony and has no plans to do so.
