Unsurprising opinions from the Kobe stans who thought he was a top 10 SG this off-season.

He's improved on the defensive end, but in no world is he a "hell of a defender"
Heavily disagree. There's this overwhelming opinion that Steph is some sort of push over on the defensive end and that's just not true. You weren't here back then, but some of the guys who were may remember me jumping on the "Steph Curry is a good defender" bandwagon years ago when Mark Jackson was still the coach. He's taken another step under Kerr (or Ron Adams should I say) to the point that he's one of the best defensive PG's in the league right now. I will say with the hand checking rules the league currently has you really don't have that shutdown defensive PG anymore, but Steph is still really really really good on that end. We are talking about a guy with exceptional instincts and can move his feet and stay in front of his man as well as anyone in the league. He's an elite man/ball defender because of his instincts and smarts in this league which makes him a great help defender as well as being able to get out and contest his man on the perimeter, and because of how smart he is you rarely catch him out of position. He's also very strong, he uses his strength to routinely get players out of their preferred positions on the court as well as fighting through screens to contest shots and the ball handler. He also has very quick hands which contributed to his league leading 2.1 steals a game. In this day and age every PG is going to get beat at least once or twice a game because of the leagues rules and just the overall talent of the position, but Steph is absolutely an elite defensive PG.

Except for the fact that he was absolutely dreadful those precious two years he took the court, even if it was small sample size.

Are we watching the same games lmao? Steph has been a turnstile on defense in recent years, and this year he isn't as bad. That in no way means he is one of the best defensive guards in the entire league. That is just flat out ludicrous. He led the league in steals... That means he is great at gambling. That doesn't translate at all to being one of the best defenders in the league.

Clearly not, I'm not sure what games you're watching. Perhaps you're watching them and just aren't paying attention or don't know what you're watching??

And the majority of Stephs steals come off his elite anticipation and hand quickness, and his ability to move his feet and stay in position. He's not out there gambling and getting out of position by jumping passing lanes.

The steals were my last point and were a reflection on his quick hands, not sure how you equated that to him being an elite defender. I'm the leading voice on this site for blocks/steals doesn't equal great defender.

You guys are on Steph's nuts so hard it's ridiculous. In no world is he one of the best defensive guards in the NBA.

one of the best, no -- but he's a top 10 defensive PG when he needs to be

like nola was alluding to -- its a lot better to have your opponents with lower shooting percentages (Lillard shot 36% this series, when he shot 42% during the season) than to have a ton of steals

Not the best player in the world? This reminds me of people claiming Kobe was still better than LeBron in 2006. People gotta let go.

Curry is definitely the best player in the world right now -- I can't believe it's being debated

Do y'all not remember what he's done this year? Teams are in his face, he takes one step backwards around the screen and drains threes with ease. The guy is an animal
Forgot basketballs only played on one side of the court

I'd say he's the best player. Who's a bigger threat offensively? And the guy is a HELL of a defender as well.
Hell of a defender?? Lmao lets talk when your mouth isnt full of currys balls

So ive noticed here that only cool three point shooting really impresses you guys. The game is played 50% on defense. Curry is not the best player in the world. Hes the best shooter on a very stacked team, which helps him be this good bc of all the attention all the other guys get from defenses too. If he was a one man team, he wouldnt be doing what hes doing bc its easy to stop a ones mans show of threes. Not so much when you have the most stacked team in the game with starters on your bench

Steph played two games in this series, how can you use Lillard's FG%? And he was playing hero ball the whole time, so of course his percentage isn't going to be spectacular.

Have you not seen the way the league is trending? Shooting has become probably the most important part of the game. And it's not as if Curry is some standstill shooter, dude.. He's the best shooter, he's by far the best shooter off the dribble, he's the best shooter coming off screens. Not to mention you're ignoring how good of a finisher around the rim he is, great ball handler, great passer. Complete offensive player. And I could easily argue that the game is not 50% defense, which is an argument I've had with nola on here before. I'd say it's at least 60/40 in favor of offense, maybe more.

And Iguodala is the only "starter" on the Warriors bench. I guess Ezeli will become one in the off-season, but I wouldn't want to be the team that pays him. Speights, Linvingston, and Barbosa were all bouncing around the league before they landed in Golden State.

Don't quite get the obsession with people wanting to discredit players because they have good teammates. You kind of need those to win.

I'd say he's one of the best, he's consistently a great defender. Like I said, with the offensive talent and the rules geared to help the offense every defender is going to look silly at some point, but Steph is currently one of the best the league has to offer.

Lol yea man the game isnt 50% defense. To even have that kind of arguement, you must have something wrong with you. Its clearly 50/50 lol. Yea teams get more possesions than the other, but thats from playing defense and getting those extra possessions. And like you said it yourself. "Complete offensive game" thats it. Dont even try to bullshit that curry is an elite defender. Just dont. I know warrior fans who will be the first ones to say that curry is an average defender. He cannot lock down his defender. He cant bang in the post, he cant guard lenghty players. Cant do everything thay klay can do on defense. And also klay is alot better at catch and shoots. Curry is better off the dribble
