Only the team that matches an offer has to pay it as proposed. The Rockets are able to pay him different numbers in different years as long as he gets what he signed for.

I also assume that if they don't get Dwight, they'll extend Asik to lessen his cap hit.

Is this actually true?  If so, they need to fix that horse shit.

You're kidding, right?

He's one of the most dominant low post scorers in the game right now

he lacks post moves but that doesnt mean hes still not a good offensive player.
He's good at rolling to the basket, putting back offensive boards, and benefits from teammates getting into the paint and dishing off to him after they pull defenders away from him.

But that's not my definition of a good offensive player. My definition is someone who needs minimal help from teammates to get his buckets. Someone you can throw it down to and be confident that he can get you two points. Dwight isn't that. He has never developed any offensive game and his footwork is still poor. His game is too reliant on his teammates to be called a "good offensive player." 0.74 points in the post per possession this season and 44% shooting which is very poor. Only 42% outside of the rim restricted circle. Only 59% on his layups when "good offensive centers" are in the mid to upper 60's.

Correct. Rockets will pay Asik about 8.3M every year for the next three year, no increase and no decrease.

Rockets will pay Lin the same.

This is fun to discuss, but I must admit that I'm about, you know, 110% positive that Houston gets neither guy.

Sometimes realism trumps homerism.

Howard's gonna stay with LAL. Paul's probably going to stay with LAC, too.

I like how the team is now

Not with the way McHale handles the rotation. Had he let Jones see the court earlier last year, we could have had a surprise rookie in him. When he finally got minutes, he produced.

Then he seemingly decided that DMo no longer deserves minutes. I like Greg Smith as a backup center, but he's not a starting caliber player in the NBA until he refines his post game more. He's got the tools to be really good, but he's not a starter yet. I'd have liked for McHale to go with the raw talent of DMo or Jones heading into the playoffs.
