You really think whoever is drafted at 8 is going to have a big impact for the Pistons?Unless one of the top 5 drops I don't even think whoever the Pelicans draft will have a positive impact.
I can't predict the future. To say it can't happen though is just a dumb prediction though lol.

I never said it won't happen, but history suggests whoever you draft at 8 will not have a positive impact in his first year or two.

And honestly you don't even need to look at history, just look at the crop of players who are projected to be available and you could see they are years away from having positive impacts for your team. Like Burke for example, he may have decent averages next season but he'll likely be an inefficent scoring guard who plays poor defense.

9th pick had some good rookies.
Drummond, Amare, Walker, Iguodala, Dirk.

Just bad drafting on the GMs for the 8th pick.

Even 3 of the 5 you listed above did not have positive impacts for their teams as rookies. I'm not saying you can't get a good player at 8, I'm saying the probability of grabbing someone who will have a positive impact on the team next season is slim.

I may drop a mock tomorrow but I'm feeling the top 5 goes like this below.

1. Cavs - Noel
2. Magic - Oladipo
3. Wizards - Porter
4. Bobcats - Len
5. Suns - McLemore

Chad Ford @chadfordinsider
There's a growing belief that Cody Zeller is seriously in play at No. 4 to the Bobcats along with Alex Len, Anthony Bennett & Ben McLemore
Chad Ford @chadfordinsider
Bobcats GM Rich Cho is a big Zeller fan. He's pushing that direction but getting resistance.

You know what confuses me? Sources say if the Pelicans pick a perimeter player tomorrow night, they want a guy who can create their own offense. There is one guy that really stands out to me that does that, and that's McCollum. His game is similar to a guy Monty Williams said was #2 on the Pels board last season, Damian Lillard.

It fills a need, puts a great guy in the locker room, and is probably one of the more NBA ready prospects available. Plus he's projected to go somewhere in our range and yet we haven't brought him in for a workout or any sources saying we've interviewed him? That's just weird to me.

I kind of wondered if between watching him on film and watching him at the combine if Dell and Monty like him enough that they didn't need to see anything else. And by not bringing him in teams wouldn't think the Pels were a real threat to take him and try and trade above us. Dell said himself the reason we didn't work out more guys because the agents didn't feel the Pels were in their draft range. But yet McCollum worked out for Phoenix and Sacramento, who sandwich us at #5 and #7.

Starting to feel like Bennett might fall to us. Not sure how I feel about that. Especially with the recent news about his weight. Just screams Jason Maxiell to me.

Maxiell? I don't see that.

He's more of a Paul Millsap/Larry Johnson type guy.

Strong, short and undersized for the position. Athletic enough to play the position. Can step out and hit the jumper.

Maxiell hasn't converted on more than 36% of his midrange shots in like 3 or 4 seasons. In his career he's only had two seasons where he shot better than 40% from midrange and he rarely shot it those seasons. Both having good builds and being undersized is about where the comparisons stop. Bennett has a very versatile offensive game even at this young age, Maxiell was never that.

Rivers, Gordon, Roberts, someone they sign in FA, lots of options.

But I doubt that deal happens. Nor would I want it too.

Plus in this era with stretch 4's, having a PF and C being your centerpieces of the team might not be the best idea

obvously if len falls to #6 its a different story, but to trade up and give away your starting PG and a 1st in one of the best drafts ever, one that you'd probably have a real good pick in is foolish

but if it happens, cavs would troll the NBA when kyrie gets injured and the cavs suck again
