Need your opinion on these prospects..

1. Beal is he really worth a top 3 pick?

2. PJ3

3.Lillard

I have a few problems with Beal, there are just a lot of excuses surrounding him. Played with a team with too many shoot first guards, his shooting stroke was there in high school but it will come back again later even though he didn't always show it all the time in college, though he did take a lot of threes (47% of his shots were behind the line). It just seems like everything that he was supposed to be very good at, there's a "but he didn't do that" and they say "but don't worry about it." Beal is just kind of hard to really judge. He played a ton of SF, and he rebounded VERY well against other college threes, but Fran Fraschilla (who would rather Waiters and Lamb over Beal) thinks that he didn't really display the advantages he should have had against college threes. So I mean, I like Beal, I think he will be a very good player, but I think some of the hype or comparisons are kind of getting out of hand. He isn't the next Ray Allen, he isn't Eric Gordon, etc. To answer your question though, I think he's worth a top 3 pick because he's a good blend of ready to contribute now and a high ceiling. He's not really a risk I guess.

PJ3, I don't like him very much. Is he a 3? Is he a 4? Lots of NBA people think he's a 4, he thinks he's a 3. I was watching a interview with him the other day where he made all these admissions and talked about how he's more comfortable fading away then playing with contact, and that's a huge red flag. I just think he's caught in the middle. I don't think he's strong enough to play the 4, I don't think he's willing enough to play the 4. But I also don't think his skills are good enough to play the 3. Like I said, he has a ton of potential and maybe someone will coach him up or a light will turn on, but I'm just not a huge fan.

And Lillard, he will definitely have a place in the league, but he's being overrated. I view him as a ideal 6th man. I personally feel like Kendall Marshall more. Alot of people think Marshall was lucky because he got to play with guys like Harrison Barnes, John Henson, Tyler Zeller, etc. But I disagree. I think those guys were lucky that they got to play with Kendall Marshall. If he didn't go down in the tournament I think UNC would have been playing in the NC. I mean when they lost Henson for that little time they just kept moving along, but when they lost Marshall that entire team stopped moving, they were lost without him. There's a interview he did after the Hornets workout that I'll post if I can find, it's a good listen. But anyways back to Marshall. Everyone loves Lillard, he's winning everything in the workouts. But Lillard just, there have been many many players that have come out of schools similar to Weber State that had crazy stats, and they don't turn out to be all that great in the NBA. It's not just the small school school though, but Damian Lillard played 12 teams in the RPI top 50 over his 4 years, and only 22 in the top 100. So it's not that he was playing bad teams, he was playing really bad teams. So it's hard to go off numbers or film and such. He has the numbers and all that, but I'd let someone else take that gamble. People compare him to Steph Curry but Curry got Davidson to the tournament and when he played against big schools he dominated, but when Lillard played against only the two "big schools" from a power conference this year his numbers were awful. I think he's more of a combo guard than a point guard. Plus he's fairly old as a NBA prospect.

There is nothing out of hand about whatever hype Beal is getting. He struggled shooting the ball, but he's a better shooter than that, he showed it in high school. It's not as if he forgot how to shoot.

Ray Allen comparisons are stupid, Eric Gordon comparisons are high praise, but mildly realistic.

Eric Gordon has career averages of 18/3/3, and it's all been on bad teams. How is that outrageous to believe Beal could become that?

Anyone who has watched Eric Gordon extensively knows he is much better than that when healthy. I want to say his last season with the Clips he was averaging 25 a game before the wrist injury, and would have stayed close to that number if not for the injury. I don't see Beal ever averaging 25 per game. Especially if he's playing next to Kyrie.

More so though, I was just saying he will never be the same type of guard.

nola, i think the eric gordon love needs to chill. ive never thought of him higher than a 18ppg scorer. i wasnt even high on him on draft day. i dont even recall you being so in love with him until he was traded to the hornets.

That was obviously before I had the chance to watch him a lot. I can remember last year when we were doing the top 5 SG's I said something to the effect that he's a offensive minded SG like Monta, and that simply isn't true.

Your opinion on people change when you actually take the time to watch them. He really makes an impression on you once you actually see him, and he doesn't have any exposure.
