The Nuggets extended a qualifying offer to forward Linas Kleiza on Monday, but his agent says he'll remain in Greece. Denver owns Kleiza's NBA rights.

"We have no plans to sign with the Nuggets, nor have they expressed interest in signing Linas at this point," agent Bill Duffy said.

Kleiza left the Nuggets a year ago to play for Olympiakos, for whom he signed a two-year, $12.2 million contract.

Lakers center Andrew Bynum had his knee drained on Tuesday for the third time this month.

Bynum will travel to South Africa with friends to watch some World Cup soccer before returning to the United States to have surgery on July 18. He tore cartilage in his knee during the Lakers' first-round playoff series against the Thunder.

Lakers reserve point guard Jordan Farmar acted on Tuesday as if he was saying goodbye to the team.

He made sure to say goodbye to the media after his exit interview Tuesday, "in case I don't see you again."

The Lakers drafted Farmar with the 26th pick in the 2006 NBA Draft and he will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

He played at Taft High School in Woodland Hills, at UCLA in college and his entire pro career has been with the Lakers.

"I love L.A., [but] I think it's good for somebody to get away sometimes," Farmar said. He has started just two games in his career, both in his rookie season.

"It's definitely a struggle for me because my role hasn't expanded much in four years," Farmar said. "That was kind of the plan going into every year, to get a little more and a little more and it's kind of stayed the same."

The team's other backup point guard, Shannon Brown, has the option to hit the market as well.

The Spurs are widely expected to sign Tiago Splitter sometime soon after free agency opens on July 1.

GM R.C. Buford categorizes the expectation as "presumptuous".

Splitter is now widely acknowledged as the best big man in Europe.

Splitter can expect a deal starting at the mid-level exception, about $5.5 million. He could make more money to stick around Spain, so the Spurs will likely have to make up the difference with a long-term contract.

One rival NBA executive surmises it will take five years and a total package worth between $25 million and $30 million to entice Splitter away from Spain's money.

"I've heard he's developed his game so much over the past couple of years," Manu Ginobili said Tuesday. "I'm dying to see him. I'd love to see him play with us."

The Nets are believed to have serious interest in taking Syracuse small forward Wesley Johnson with the third overall pick in Thursday night's NBA Draft.

New Jersey believes that landing Johnson will help them sign Utah power forward Carlos Boozer as a free agent.

Johnson and Boozer are both represented by agent Rob Pelinka.

Sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that if the Nets select Johnson, it'll be a strong indication that they plan to go hard at Boozer once free agency begins.

An NBA executive told the New York Times that the Blazers and Knicks are discussing a trade for Rudy Fernandez.

The Knicks would most likely part with either Wilson Chandler or Toney Douglas in such a deal.

Another league executive said Fernandez is available but the Blazers are hoping to receive a draft pick in return. The Knicks currently do not have a first-round pick in Thursday's draft.

I would much rather trade Douglas then DubC, Rudy would be a nice addition not the position(s) we need, but cant hurt.

sportsguy33: Rip is untradeable - we can agree. And Dumars has always been unrealistic with what he wants for Prince. Last year he turned down Kaman for him which was unconscionable.

Wow, you have to be <Censored>ing kidding me. I don't understand what the <Censored> is wrong with Dumars. We were looking for a legit big man and he turned that deal down? I told you guys, Rip and Tay are his left and right testicles.

I'm starting to believe John Hammond was the orchestrator behind the few smart moves we had made. He's doing work with Milwaukee while we sit on our asses.
