$103.75 over 5 years, with $59M guaranteed, starting in 2014-15. He makes $10M this year

His average salary will be 2nd in the NFL, behind Aaron Rodgers.

Julio Jones, Roddy White, Tony G.. this guy has had a solid offensive team around him.

Does he deserve this much money?

Every top QB (except Brady right now) has a plethora of targets

Rodgers: Cobb, Nelson, Finley, Jennings
Ryan: Julio, White, Gonzo
Flacco: Boldin, Torrey, Pitta, Rice
Peyton: Thomas, Decker, Welker
Brees: Colston, Graham, Moore
Eli: Cruz, Nicks

Still think it's high paying. Was it time to sign him this year? Or is just what the Falcons wanted to do?

2013-14 was the final year of his contract, but the team wanted to avoid that distraction going into the season

Boldin's a 9er. Jennings is a Viking.

Either way, Flacco has Torrey, Pitta, Rice, Jones, and the WR who I think breaks out this year--Tandon Doss.

Rodgers still has Jones, Cobb, Nelson, etc.

Just like the Cowboys gave Tony too much, the Falcons gave Matty Ice too much. And I haven't even mentioned the Ravens lol.

Bold Opinion Warning: The quarterback position is overvalued.

Let's put it this way: Shouldn't Brees or Rodgers have at least been in contention for a second title by now? Shouldn't Matt Ryan or Tony Romo have won at least one more playoff game by now? How in the hell is Peyton Manning's postseason record so damn underwhelming?

These QBs have played much of their careers either without a trustworthy, consistent RB or with sub-par defensive units, and in Romo's case, FG kicking has just been awful throughout his career.

And yet we've seen less statistically prolific QBs like Flacco and Big Ben win titles in recent years, mostly because their teams were complete teams, because their FOs put complete teams together instead of a patchwork roster surrounding a great QB who's paid far too much. Yes, Rodgers and Ryan didn't have their gratuitous contracts until recently, but now that they do, I expect both teams to struggle to field the kinds of defenses that are necessary in today's NFL.

How in the hell does Baltimore recover from paying Flacco too much?

Sure, but I can easily make the case that they haven't won more because they aren't as "elite" as some people make them out to be. Or they have faced QBs that are more "elite" during that time period. (Peyton vs Brady)  (Romo sucks) (Ryan chokes)

Just look at the last decade, 8-10 teams that won the superbowl had an elite QB. (minus the ravens and bucs)

Is it impossible to win without an elite QB? No. But you usually want the player that will be touching the ball on every single offensive down to be a great player. Simple as that.

Brady wasn't necessarily elite right off the bat. Big Ben SUCKED in his first super bowl. And Flacco is a good QB. Neither QB in last years Super Bowl is elite. Flacco might become elite with a different OC, but we don't know for sure yet, and Kaepernick probably won't be an elite QB. Also, the last playoff game Romo was in, his defense gave up 34 points after shutting the Eagles down for two weeks in a row. Completely unacceptable. Ryan has sucked in the playoffs until this past season. We're not being fair to these two players. The quarterback position gets all of the credit for a job done by 22 (make it 30-35 with special teams) men. It's absurd. Rodgers won his Super Bowl because the Green Bay defense was fantastic (and has since fallen off the map, which is why the Pack have struggled in the playoffs since). Eli's two Super Bowl wins have come with elite defenses. Big Ben's Steeler defense held the Cardinals in check for most of the game. Adam Viniateri won what, 2 of the 3 Super Bowls for New England?

Different things have been the deciding factor in most Super Bowls in recent years. A good quarterback is as good as the pieces around him, and Brady is the only exception to that.

I'd take elite QB + average RB over great RB + average QB any day

The way I see it is, anything Ryan does right gets discredited by the media/idiots who just scream "look at all the weapons he's surrounded by." Then when something goes wrong all the blame falls solely on Ryan.
