If they hired Tom Cable, they would have just been better off sticking with Schwartz. I'm rather certain they will not hire Tom Cable...

That is how I feel about it. Replacing Schwartz with Cable is an absolute downgrade imo.

Sounds like they are also considering Jim Caldwell. Not impressed with him either. Lovie Smith, Ken Whisenhunt, Mike Zimmer are all better options

I'm sure you'll be hearing about a lot of names being considered. I still say Ken Whisenhunt and I'm sticking with it! I don't know why but when I hear the name Tom Cable it makes me laugh..

"I will tell you this, I think the best job out there is the Detroit Lions," Dungy said Friday morning in an interview on The Dan Patrick Show. "That's the job I would want."

" I think they're closest to the Super Bowl," Dungy said before listing off the checklist items a coach looks for when selecting the best job. "You look for a franchise quarterback in this day and age, you want to have a passing game because this game is all about passing, and you want people who can rush the passer and protect the lead.

"Detroit's got all that."

I would be hesitant to hire any coach or front office guy who made his name off Peyton Manning's success

As would I. Don't want Caldwell at all.

Still think Whisenhut is the front runner. Hopefully the Chargers lose so we can interview him soon.

I hope the Lions choose Caldwell, because the Redskins are interested in him as well. :\

Adam Schefter says it will be Whisenhut's job to lose.

I like the Whisenhunt idea. The others I think are just names thrown around, and even the interviews, it's just going through the process to see. Those are the guys they could talk to that aren't currently in the playoffs. Once the Chargers are out of the playoffs, the interview with Whisenhunt can begin and I believe shortly after that, he'll be the next coach. The rest of the staff, I think a small portion will be kept, if any of them.

Yes. There's no way he will go to a team without a proven, good QB. The Lions are it, they have Stafford. He will be the next head coach of the Lions, probably Monday or Tuesday of this coming week. Once he is available to be hired, I don't think the Lions will take long. They are just waiting for the Chargers season to end.
