When LeBron hit his game winning shot in game 2, it was a great shot. It was the type of shot that could be the beginning of a great host of them. But then after the game I kept seeing the shot everywhere I turned, Sportscenter must have showed it 20 times in it's 1 hour show. Magic Johnson was interviewing LeBron about the shot and was saying that this shot could start him in the conversation as one of the greater closers of all time.
Kobe last night had a probably more impressive performance, going on the road against an energetic team and bringing his team back through tough shot after tough shot including a 3 that pretty much decided the game. He had more points than Lebron and got his team a road win.
Kobe is being talked about, but not nearly as much as LeBron was blown up when he made his shot. LeBron is a great player but it is easy to look so great when the media blows up every single thing you do to be great. Magic said this one shot could put him with the Kobe's and Jordan's as one of the great closers of all time. Why? This is one playoff buzzer beater.. at home. To me Robert Horry even deserves the title of one of the greatest closers over Lebron. He has time and time again hit clutch shot after clutch shot. Lebron made one shot and is being put in the class of MJ. Dwyane Wade even hit clutch, clutch shots in his NBA Finals against the Mavericks, more clutch than Lebron has ever hit, and he is not mentioned in this class. Lebron's one shot, which they don't mention was a complete bailout for the team blowing a 23 point lead, somehow puts him in the category with Michael Jordan who hit 24 shots in the final 10 seconds of a game to give his team a win. Lebron is a sick player, and I am not arguing that, but I think that they give him too much credit for every little thing that he does.
