When LeBron hit his game winning shot in game 2, it was a great shot. It was the type of shot that could be the beginning of a great host of them. But then after the game I kept seeing the shot everywhere I turned, Sportscenter must have showed it 20 times in it's 1 hour show. Magic Johnson was interviewing LeBron about the shot and was saying that this shot could start him in the conversation as one of the greater closers of all time.

Kobe last night had a probably more impressive performance, going on the road against an energetic team and bringing his team back through tough shot after tough shot including a 3 that pretty much decided the game. He had more points than Lebron and got his team a road win.

Kobe is being talked about, but not nearly as much as LeBron was blown up when he made his shot. LeBron is a great player but it is easy to look so great when the media blows up every single thing you do to be great. Magic said this one shot could put him with the Kobe's and Jordan's as one of the great closers of all time. Why? This is one playoff buzzer beater.. at home. To me Robert Horry even deserves the title of one of the greatest closers over Lebron. He has time and time again hit clutch shot after clutch shot. Lebron made one shot and is being put in the class of MJ. Dwyane Wade even hit clutch, clutch shots in his NBA Finals against the Mavericks, more clutch than Lebron has ever hit, and he is not mentioned in this class. Lebron's one shot, which they don't mention was a complete bailout for the team blowing a 23 point lead, somehow puts him in the category with Michael Jordan who hit 24 shots in the final 10 seconds of a game to give his team a win. Lebron is a sick player, and I am not arguing that, but I think that they give him too much credit for every little thing that he does.

I agree with everything you wrote except this:

Dwyane Wade even hit clutch, clutch shots in his NBA Finals against the Mavericks
It should be changed to "Anytime a defender gets within two feet of Dwyane Wade, a foul is called."

A lot of fouls are called when Wade drives but that is because he drives so much, and probably more than anyone in the NBA. And he has hit many big shots where no fouls were called lol

I agree LeBron hits one shot and all of a sudden everyone thinks he's better than Kobe and possibly Jordan too. Thats why majority of the time I hate ESPN. Its mainly a popularity contest. If LeBron never hit that shot they still wouldn't have showed Hedo's shot anywhere near as much. Its not just the shot either. Has anyone noticed everytime LeBron gets dunked on ESPN pays it no mind? Go to youtube and look up Nick Young on Lebron James and it did even make top 5 on NBA TVs top 10. I like LeBron but he gets favored too much.

I agree with the ESPN issue... It would practically be a sin if they did show something like this:

in the clutch :

Bryant : 54.8 pts on 46% FG%, 9.1 rebs, 6 assists, 0 blocks, 0.9 steals

LeBron : 52.4 pts on 48% FG%, 16.5 rebs, 12.9 assists, 0.7 blocks, 2.9 steals

Wade : 54.6 pts on 49% FG%, 4.4 rebounds, 9.3 assists, 6.5 blocks, 3.2 steals

Kobe is averaging 38.8 Field goal attempts in the clutch, while Wade averages 34.3.....and LeBron only has an amazing 29.4 FGA. -Averaging almost 10 less shot attempts than Kobe is and is only 2.4 average points behind.

You NJ fans are easily the biggest haters on SI. First VC says D-wade is overhyped and then you say lebron is overhyped. I expect better of you NJ.

Let's move on to GAME WINNING SHOTS

Guess who leads the league in game winners? LEBRON JAMES.

1) LeBron James leads the NBA with 17 game winning shots with a FG% of 34% in the clutch
2) Vince Carter..
3) Ray Allen..

4) Kobe Bryant has 14 game winners and is in 4th place with a FG% of 25% in the clutch

NBA League average for game winners = 29% FG%.

LeBron shoots above that, Kobe shoots below.

First off, no one said LeBron was better then Michael Jordan.. There is a possibility he COULD be better, but not now. He is already better then Kobe, if people just realized that after the game winning shot, good for them, but he had surpassed Kobe already. And LeBron is a great closer, this has just added to what his legacy will be. He already has multiple game winning shots in the playoffs, they aren't at the buzzer, but that's because he has had time to get to the rim. LeBron has always been one of the best if not the best 4th quarter players in the NBA, which is also closing, clutch is not only making game winning shots, it's getting back into games in the 4th quarter and winning games in the 4th quarter which LeBron does better then anyone else.

How about coughing up 16 and 23 point leads? Is that clutch too? LeChoke and the Cavs should be down 2-0 right now...

Because LeBron has been the whole reason for the leads being blown. His sidekick is playing terrible, he has been the only player actually doing good for the Cavs, and because of him the Cavs are actually in a position to still win the series. Where are the Kobe is over hyped threads because the Lakers constantly blow big leads.

TYO please tell me where those stats are from, and define "in the clutch"

And when are Lebron's 17 game winners from because I don't remember a single one this season

Ok, I see a link about what you're reffering to, and "In the Clutch" Kobe scores more points than Lebron, shoots a better percentage than Lebron, while Lebron gets more team-like stats, although I find these stats skewed anyway, per- 48 minute stats never meant much to me because these 5 minute periods are NOT over 48 minutes

"You NJ fans are easily the biggest haters on SI. First VC says D-wade is overhyped and then you say lebron is overhyped. I expect better of you NJ."

I say he is overhyped because I am already starting to hear claims of "The Greatest Player of All Time". Greatness isn't defined by regular season stats and wins. Dirk isn't considered great for leading the mavericks to their 60+ win season a few seasons ago, and NOT winning a ring. He is in the same category as Vince, T-Mac and Dirk to me, because winning a championship is the real thing you have to do to be considered great, along with of course your personal performance, so to me Dwyane Wade easily has a better argument than Lebron does for the greatest of all time because not only did he win a ring but hit many clutch shots during that championship and averaged I believe 35 PPG in those finals.

Lebron is a great player, don't get me wrong I consider him no doubt in the top 3 in the NBA, but when he hits one buzzer beater and Magic Johnson says we can put him in a class with MJ, there is no doubt he is being overhyped.

This Thread is a hater fest.
Haha true. It's weird how this discussion occurs only in the NBA. Is there a humongous feud between Lincecum fans and Santana fans in baseball? They're definitely the two best, but there's no hatred. Funny.

lebron deserves the hype. He had all the hype coming out in 2003, and he has only done more then what we expected. All great players are overhyped, but that's because they are great, they deserve to be talked about.

Some people are overhyped though. Like for example, mexi will hate me, but Andrew Bynum is overhyped.
