Sign Gilbert to an extension first
Kobe/Kwame <-> Gilbert/Nick Young/Andray Blatche/Picks?

I would do it

I'm pretty sure there are rules prohibiting teams from signing players to an "extension" and then trading them.

No that rule is for newly aquired or signed players. You have to wait awhile to trade a player you newly aquired.

I was looking over the Opening Night Rosters on NBA.com and they have Kobe Bryant listed on IR... I found that kind of interesting...

Well he is as of right now, his little "wrist injury" but they will probably activate him before their opener.

They play tomorrow don't they? Not sure why they'd have him on IR today and not tomorrow...

Also I don't know how up-to-date that list is...seeing they don't have Udrih on the T'Wolves, but I guess the Wolves will just cut him.

I think you can only do a sign and trade when a player on your team's contract runs out. you can't give him an extension and then trade him because he could just work out the extension with the team he is traded to.

A sign-and-trade agreement is a type of contract allowed in the NBA collective bargaining agreement, wherein one team signs a player to a contract and trades him to another team. This is typically done to allow the eventual acquiring team to obtain a free agent player at a higher salary and/or a greater number of years than would ordinarily be permitted under the NBA salary cap.

Sign-and-trades are considered "atomic" transactions under league rules; if the acquiring team rescinds the trade for some reason (such as a failed physical examination), then the contract signed with the initial team is also voided. In this way, such an occurrence does not result in the initial team being stuck with a player they do not want, or under terms they might find unacceptable; the player is also protected from ending up under contract with a team he may no longer wish to play for. Such an event happened in 2005, when Shareef Abdur-Rahim was acquired by the New Jersey Nets in a sign-and-trade with the Portland Trail Blazers; the trade was subsequently cancelled by the Nets when a physical exam discovered scar tissue in Abdur-Rahim's knee. As a result of the cancellation, Abdur-Rahim once again became a free agent; his contract with Portland (who had his Bird rights) was voided.

6 Assists Per Game isnt alot for a ballhog? Gilbert can pass and score. 6 Assists isnt that bad for averaging somewhere arouns 28 ppg. One.

Why the heck do you put One. after everything you say???? And Gil probably passes more and better than Kobe, cause he's a PG and is supposed to pass the ball and get the play going....which Kobe handles the ball probably more than the PGs on his team.

Gilbert used to play shooting gaurd in college.
You can tell by the way he plays he gets 6 apg but he stills shoots first... Just like Kobe.
