The Pistons and Kings have spoken about a trade that would ship Josh Smith to Sacramento, reports Marc Stein of ESPN.com. One version would involve Derrick Williams and Jason Thompson heading to Detroit, while Jason Terry is a part of other scenarios, Stein adds (Twitter links). No deal is imminent, but Stein suggests that Sacramento has Rajon Rondo in mind as they pursue a deal for Smith, whos friends with the Celtics point guard (Twitter link).

Pistons president of basketball operations Stan Van Gundy expressed confidence this afternoon in the teams direction regarding soon-to-be restricted free agent Greg Monroe, and a trade of Smith would help resolve the Pistons shooting deficiencies if Monroe remains. The new deal at or near the max that Monroe and agent David Falk are likely to command this summer would mean Monroe would join Smith on lucrative long-term contracts that would make it difficult for the Pistons to make changes along the front line without parting with Drummond.

The Kings under GM Pete DAlessandro have been perhaps the most aggressive team on the trade market, and a deal involving either Williams or Terry would represent a quick flip of players he acquired via trades just this past season. Thompson was frequently in trade rumors toward the deadline, but talks involving the Cavs never came to fruition.

nothing major but something to talk about. ive been a huge jt fan and while ive never really like derrick williams and ive never really given him much hope hed be a good throw in. id take jason terry in a heartbeat to get rid of smoove too.

Stan said he "made up his mind" on what to do with Monroe.
Hoping since Smith's name is being shopped that it means we plan to keep Monroe.

Also hoping these talks pick back up. Just get rid of Smith please.

I've talked about it before, but I would be willing to bet Sacramento wouldn't some sort of asset to take on Smith.

Just don't think that would be the smart move. Both good players individually, but haven't seen anything that says they are a good duo.

rip, he also mentioned that he would be fine with having three max front court players if that's what has to be done..

idk what "assest" they would want that caused us to back out. i dont think that's the case.

First rounder, a young prospect, Pistons cap space, etc.

Because as soon as he was traded there they let him go rehab his Knee injury for the rest of the season.

We aren't going to get fair value back for Monroe. No sense moving him for the sake of moving him.
I'd rather take my chances on Stan figuring out how to get them to work well together.

If the Pistons trade Smith, I will run down the street naked.  When the cop stops me, I'll tell him why I'm doing what I'm doing and he will understand and let me run home.

It would probably cement Stan/Bower as executive of the year. lel
