Alright...back on topic:

Keeping the guy around all preseason then releasing him days before the regular season and days before he is due to make a 8M bonus? Stories like this get around among NFL players, this can't be good for Jacksonville attracting future free agents.
Don't think it really matters... lol

"Yeah, Jacksonville has money on the table, but im not going.. fuck that.. here I come UFL"

At the end of the day, its a business... and it was a business decision in crunchtime.

All because it happened to Garrard doesn't mean it'd happen to somebody else.

QB is the most important position and they needed the time to evaluate. Wasn't like this was the plan 3 weeks ago.

Agent: Three Teams After Garrard

Florida Times-Union - Al Irby, the agent for quarterback David Garrard, says that three teams have already contacted him about the veteran's services.

Garrard was surprisingly released by the Jaguars on Tuesday.

"Been assured that the job was his this year," Irby said. "That's why we're all shocked, and so was he. This had to be a last minute decision, that's the only thing I can say. I don't think these guys would purposely tell me one thing and [do another].

Is there a chance he comes back to the Jags at a discount?

Nope, never was a money issue..

Gene and Del Rio said about a million times yesterday it wasn't about money, Garrard just simply was horrible this year and we thought we had better players at the QB position on the roster than David.

I have a hard time believing that.

If Garrard was making, say, 1.5 million and still had the same starting experience, I can't see them dropping him for a guy like Luke McCown. I understand that Garrard wasn't great. He certainly wasn't playing up to that 8 million dollar cap hit, but if money wasn't the issue here, I don't see how they would choose McCown over Garrard.

We get it, you think the Texans are the greatest team this year.. you say it in pretty much every post mentioning the AFC South. Texans aren't shit until they prove it.

"This is the Texans' year!" Signed, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006...."
No, that's not true, the Chargers will be this year. But, the Texans will win the AFC South and might do a little damage in the playoffs depending on who they play, but for sure, this is their division to lose this year. I don't care about 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005 etc. They are the team to beat in the AFC South this year. Everyone talks about the Chargers choking every year too, that is bound to change this year. With a good defense, I know they lost some players but I still like what they have going there and the offense is the same as it always is with Rivers. With improved special teams and a good offense & defense, watch out!

I have the Texans winning the division but not winning a playoff game.

With McCown starting for Jacksonville, I have them finishing 4th in the division.

Texans
Titans
Colts
Jags

The Colts could jump to #2 depending on Peyton's health.

Simple... McCown looked better than Garrard this year. This preseason/training camp with Gabbert coming in was the make or break year for Garrard. McCown has been the best QB in camp according to Del Rio and GM Gene Smith. The teammates didn't like Garrard and all Garrard did was throw them under the bus for his own mistakes, and that even took place this preseason during the Falcons whenever he threw that ball that pretty much looked like a punt and was INT'd. Garrard came out after the game and blamed it all on Mike Thomas, Mike Thomas had no comment about it.

Only person on the team that seems to be mad about the release is MJD because he's been benefiting from a team that just couldn't do nothing but Run the ball for the past 2 years. With Luke in, everybody feels like we can stretch the field and actually get a passing game going.

Luke isn't going to start all season however, only until the rookie is ready. I still see us as a 7-9/8-8 team. If we don't make the playoffs, then Del Rio is fired, and all is well.. Im fine either way.

Garrard really wasn't better than McCown or Gabbert. I don't know why this is such a shock to you people. Jaguars are known for carrying 2 QB's, so why carry 3 when Garrard is doing absolutely nothing for the team but creating problems?

kam, you call Garrard a POS, yet you thought he was gonna take them to like 10-6, or something retarded like that.
Garrard is a POS.. MJD would of carried us to 10-6.

I don't see whats so hard to accept.. you people are semi-retarded.

Yeahhhh.. Jags fucked up so bad by releasing him, but the worst QB team out there doesn't even want him...

I dont get what they're arguing about either, Garrard has looked terrible this preseason, and it's not like he's had remarkable performances in the past. He couldn't even average 200 yards per game last season despite having a great running back supporting him.

Exactly.

They're clueless..

Del Rio confirms what we all knew. If Luke McCown hadn't torn his ACL last year he might have started. #Jaguars
Garrard isn't good by any means, and Luke would of started last year if he didn't tear his ACL in week 2 against the Chargers, which he was looking good in UNTIL he tore his ACL.

Exactly, i mean, I haven't seen a lot of Jaguars games, obviously, so judging from his career numbers he's an okay QB, but nothing special. In his 30s, gets sacked a lot, and every year he's inconsistent. One year he throws 3600 yards, 2 years later hes throwing 2700 yards. Inconsistency like that is scary to rely on -- they made a choice they had to make.

He gets sacked alot because he holds onto the ball too long, he 2nd guesses himself when looking downfield, then just tucks it and sack himself.

I don't think anybody is trying to say that Garrard is good. In fact, I believe I have said the exact opposite, but the fact that both of you are trying to convince yourselves and others that Luke McCown is going to be a significant upgrade is a stretch to say the least. At this point, anyway.

All I was saying is that I believe that this had everything to do with his contract. If they felt they could get similar production out of McCown at a fraction of the price, they weren't going to keep Garrard and his 8 million dollar cap hit on the team.

People are trying to say money was a factor, when it was not the money but simply just his lack of talent.

And I'm not saying McCown is better, because I haven't seen him play in a long while, but Garrard is bad and at some point you have to stop, turn around and say "Enough. This ain't working, let's try somebody else".
