Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports the Jagaurs are set to release starting QB David Garrard.
Luke McCown, not rookie Blaine Gabbert, will start the opener against the Titans. The move calls to mind coach Jack Del Rio's last-minute decision to part ways with Byron Leftwich in favor of Garrard just prior to the 2007 season. Due $8.075 million this year, Garrard wasn't financially viable in the "bridge quarterback" role for a team with little hope of contending. Garrard will have little time to learn the offense in his next destination, but he does make sense for a team like Seattle. QBs coach Carl Smith was Garrard's offensive coordinator from 2005-06. The Dolphins may also consider Garrard.

Wow, I literally jumped around for like 10 mins.. WOOOOOO.

Luke McCown is a downgrade from Garrard so until Blaine is ready I think you guys are going to struggle more than you're anticipating kam.

McCown is better than Garrard, the fuck you talking about?

Also, McCown would of been the starter for the rest of the season last year if he didn't go down with an injury.

The Jaguars with McCown wouldn't even be good enough to win a few NCAA conferences.

McCown isn't better than Garrard. Dude has been in the league since 2004 and he's 30 and has just 260 pass attempts to his name.

Garrard is better than you give him credit for, granted he still isn't very good, but he hasn't played terribly over the years in Jacksonville. He's never really had that many weapons in the passing game either. Marcedes didn't really break out until this season and MJD has always been a pretty good pass-catching back but the Jags have never really had any viable wide receivers for him to throw to. Just a bunch of average to below-average guys over the years.

There you goo.. dude speaks the truth.

I'm not the only Jag fan who speaks the truth on Garrard

http://twitter.com/#!/list/TazTAYL0R/nflshit go head, look at all the Jag fans happy as hell.

McCown like I stated would of started last year but when he got playing time in week 2 against the Chargers, went down with a torn ACL.

McCown is more of a pocket passer and gets the ball out before the rush gets to him. Garrard holds onto the ball too long and stares down receivers and sacks himself.

We're a better team with McCown and the WR's have looked below average because Garrard was throwing to them. Garrard can't throw anything past a 5 yard slant.

The core we have at WR now is better than what most people think, because theres no real big names, people think they're all garbage.

McCown LMAO

Kam can say whatever he wants about Garrard, but McCown is a big step back. Jags will be lucky to win 5 games with him under center.

Whens the last time you watched a Jaguar game and said "Man, Garrard is on fire"

Well people were saying that about Luke all training camp/preseason. Front office was waiting for Garrard to move the offense in preseason, and he didn't. Only way Garrard got the ball down the field was with pass interferences that gave us another set of downs, which happened 5 times this preseason. Luke McCown is a better pocket QB and has a better arm along with accuracy.

You clearly = clueless.

People don't realize how bad Garrard really is, Even Marcedes Lewis said on sportscenter it wasn't a step down. Marcedes has came out in the past and bashed the fuck out of Garrard by saying "He's a great person, not a great QB" Luke is only in until Gabbert gets a little bit more time in practice and such. I was honestly more worried with Garrard than I am with Luke McCown as the starter.

I might be clueless about somethings, but I'm not stupid enough to actually believe that Luke McCown (career 59% passer) is better than a guy like Garrard.

You = dumbass + homer

Interesting to see how McCown plays as the starter.
They might as well go with Gabbert IMO, ready or not.
I think most can agree McCown isn't leading anyone to a great season. He might be decent, but not an ideal QB to start a full season IMO.

I don't think he's horrible by any means, but I don't think he's any better than Garrard, that's for sure. Could be a little better. I don't know many people that would be excited about having Luke McCown start as the #1 QB, but like I said, he's not terrible. I don't think he will do much, Gabbert will take over at some point, possibly halfway. While McCown has looked better in preseason, I don't think that will count for much. He probably is a little better than what most people would think, but I can't see them doing much with him. Could be worse, I suppose. I don't see them competing with the Texans this year.

If I was a homer, I'd be like "OMG, NO GARRARD IS AMAZING" I'm far from a homer. I actually bash more jag players than cheer them on.

Luke McCown is a better passer than Garrard.. Garrard overthrew 6'6 Marcedes Lewis 3 times this preseason, didn't lead the starting offense to 1 TD where you could say "Garrard looked sharp there" .. Luke did, Luke has been lights out this preseason and should of been the starter last year if you go back and Look at his stats from Last years Preseason.

2010
Week 1: 11/15 - 244 Yards - 3 TD - 0 INT
Week 2: 14/23 - 152 Yards - 1 TD - 1 INT (Was a dropped pass by Jarrett Dillard)
Week 3: 9/14 - 76 Yards - 1 TD - 1 INT

2011
(Didn't Play Week 1)
Week 2: 8/9 - 86 Yards - 1 TD - 0 INT
(Didn't play week 3 Team Wanted Gabbert to finish the game)
Week 4: 4/9 - 47 Yards - 1 TD - 0 Int

Nola, don't speak on shit you don't know.. Team didn't take any step back by releasing Garrard.

We get it, you think the Texans are the greatest team this year.. you say it in pretty much every post mentioning the AFC South. Texans aren't shit until they prove it.

Luke McCown threw 15 preseason passes. Didn't play in all-impt 3d preseason game. Ladies+gentlemen, your starting quarterback for the Jags
Peter King can't add but the point is the same.

Not to mention he was playing against a bunch of 3rd-stringers.
