Not really. He battled injuries all of last year, only played in 118 games and was still damn good. He's got MVP potential, and has showcased that.

I disagree, the numbers he posted as a 19 year old rookie was pretty damn good. Didn't play a lot of games last season but somehow posted up better numbers. I think he'll take off this year barring any injuries.

With his team below .500 and his average numbers, somebody from SI still picked him to win the MVP during the all-star break. He's overrated

Their team was hampered with injuries. If Bryce had played more games, I guarantee you their team would have been a lot better.

I think hes going to step it up this year. I see 30 HR's and 100 RBI's easily based on his progression so far. He needs to work on hitting southpaws though, has a low BA in that respect.

Well, clearly no bias with your opinion of his talent involved here.

Haha fair enough but I do really think he's overrated.

No he couldn't.  Really not sure what you're basing that on because it surely isn't his resume of production.  I think it's really impressive what he's done with his body this off-season, but you need to take it down a few notches with MVP talk.

Wow why?

Hes in the Cargo zone pretty much and has more upside, just needs to stay healthy

Votto, braun, mccutchen, posey should be in it. Then guys like hanley, wright, harper, cargo, tulo, free man, carpenter, yadi

I don't know what the Cargo zone is.  What I do know is I look at 957 AB that result in a .272 BA, .834 OPS, 42 HR and 117 RBI (less than 60 per both seasons).

In his age 19 and 20 year old seasons

2nd full year in the bigs, he is primed to be a beast

Should be a 6 war player imo. Should be in the mvp talk with that, and if they win the division, he could definitely win it

Hope.  That's what you're holding on to.  Don't berate people with such conviction when your best reason is hope.  There have been like 3 players with an OPS under 900 to win the MVP in the last 20ish years.

Hope? It's based off expected progression of a great athlete. You're acting like Bryce Harper is a finished product

Bryce Harper is good and will only get better, especially if he doesn't have to deal with any injuries..

But...

I'm still taking Trout every time. Love that guy as a player.

I don't think Harper is a finished product.

Harper in 2013 was .854 OPS, .368 OBP, .486 SLG, .274 BA, 20 HR, 3.8 WAR

The NL MVP was .911 OPS, .404 OBP, .508 SLG, .317 BA, 21 HR, 8.2 WAR

Those are pretty vast gaps and McCutchen was the worst NL MVP in quite a while.

That's some kind of expected progression.

Fully healthy, more seasoned, stronger. I don't see how it's out of the realm of possibility.

List of NL MVPs in the last 10 years with a higher WAR than 8.2 (McCutchen's WAR this year):

Albert Pujols x2 (2008, 2009)
Barry Bonds x2 (2003, 2004)

Two of the greatest players of all time were the only MVPs who posted a higher WAR than McCutchen in an MVP winning year.
