Johan has a career 3.02 ERA as a SP, Doc has a career 3.28 as a SP.

Sums it up enough for me.

Johan also won the pitching Triple Crown in 2006, despite wins not meaning much, that's still very impressive.

Johan did his job better than Roy Halladay did by giving up less runs per 9 innings, how does that not make one the better pitcher? Especially considering this isn't just a one year thing, this is over the course of the decade so one fluke year won't throw it off too much

Yeah, we're discounting recently retired guys, so no Griffey, Randy Johnson or those guys

If you think he needs one more year to get in FPS, then obviously he wouldn't make it right now ;)
Yea, your right. But Miggy will definitely get in because he is very close to getting in with what he has done.

How can you base it off of one stat? So you can only argue pitchers by using ERA and nothing else?

What else do you want to argue then? If you want to bring up other stats that back you up do it.

Halladay is a workhorse, and is probably one of the most dependable and consistent pitchers in the league. He shows this with a high number of complete games and shutouts. In also pitched very poorly in 2000 which made his career ERA worse than it is.

Potential HOFers if they finish what they have started:
Ryan Howard/Prince Fielder (IDK if both will, but feel one of them will)
Miguel Cabrera
Hanley Ramirez (could hit 300 HR, 500 SB, with high average... but the kind of guy that can lose interest and just stop playing so well)
Adam Dunn - no steroid rumors, really consistent and can end up with a ton of HR... But this is an era where everyone hits homers.
Joe Mauer - what he's done as a catcher so far is ridic
Roy Halladay - stats don't jump out at you, but has been one of the best in the era.
CC Sabathia - his ERA should be going down, because he's been under his career ERA every year for like 6 years now and a bunch of Ks/wins - still only 30.

Him pitching poorly in 2000 made his ERA right where it should be because that's how he pitched in that decade and it must be accounted for.

I know, but you can't count one bad season and have it affect his career.

I see where you're coming from with Dunn. Only thing that holds him back is his high strikeout numbers.

Why can't I count one bad season if he pitched it?

I'm not basing his whole career off it, but you can't ignore it just because he pitched poorly.

I know, but its fair to say he has grown a lot since then. He isn't the first all star to have a rocky start to their careers.

The "one bad season" is only 60 innings worth - not a huge deal. And as for the strikeouts with Dunn - Reggie Jackson.

I'm not even judging him based off that season at all, I just said you can't discount it from their ERAs in the decade just because he was bad

And I am just saying you can't base them all off of ERA, especially when theirs are both below 3.4 (your number).
