http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d825da3c8/article/falcons-lose-dc-vangorder-smith-wont-reveal-candidates?module=HP11_headline_stackAtlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith announced the first offseason change to his coaching staff Monday, and it came as a bit of a surprise.
Defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder has accepted the same post at Auburn University after spending four years with the Falcons.
"I personally want to thank Brian for all the hard work he put in for our football team and Atlanta," Smith said, according to the team.
Smith wouldn't get into specifics about who could replace VanGorder.
"I'm not going to comment on (candidates for DC) position at this time," Smith said. "We'll get the best guy for our football team."
VanGorder has extensive coaching experience on both the pro and college levels, including four seasons as defensive coordinator at the University of Georgia.
I think its great news. Falcons really need to change it up if they plan on really being a factor in the playoffs, because what they've been doing these past 3-4 years isn't gonna cut it. So a new coaching staff sounds alright with me
