The Shaq Sequence is still going on!

08: Lakers lost to vets in 6 games, won the next year in 5, the next was an 08 rematch and won in 7
Heat will beat the Mavs (somehow) in 7 games this coming year.

Here is the part of the sequence. In that "rematch year", a young team who doesn't make the Finals acquires a big defensive center, and will dominate their conference for years to come now

So yeah, if it's a Finals rematch from 2 years ago, I am penciling in the Cavs to make the Finals the next year

No it's not.

If you read it, it was referencing the Cavs getting Bynum.

The Shaq Sequence
2002 - Los Angeles Lakers win title with Shaquille O'Neal
2006 - Miami Heat win title with Shaquille O'Neal

2 Years Later

2004 - Shaquille O'Neal leaves the Lakers, Lakers become lottery team
2008 - Shaquille O'Neal leaves the Heat, Miami become lottery team

A Few Years Later

2006, 2007 - After missing the playoffs, the Lakers have back to back 1st round exits. Their first playoff bout ends in 7, their second in 5. During this time, the team is essentially Kobe Bryant (A top-5 player in the league) and garbage.

2009, 2010 - After missing the playoffs, the Heat have back to back 1st round exits. Their first playoff bout ends in 7, their second in 5. During this time, the team is essentially Dwayne Wade (A top-5 player in the league) and garbage.

The Next Year

2008 - The Lakers make a huge acquisition, and become one of the best teams in the league.
2011 - The Heat make make a huge acquisition, and become one of the best teams in the league.

2008 - The Lakers make it all the way to the Finals, without much competition, only to lose in 6 to a defensive minded team full of hungry veterans. Their star player recieves a ton of hate for his poor performance.

2011 - The Heat make it all the way to the Finals, without much competition, only to lose in 6 to a defensive minded team full of hungry veterans. Their star player recieves a ton of hate for his poor performance.

The Following Year

2009 - The Lakers make it back to the Finals, and get matched up against an unexperienced team featuring one of the brightest young stars in the NBA.

2012 - The Heat make it back to the Finals, and get matched up against an unexperienced team featuring one of the brightest young stars in the NBA.

2009 - The Lakers win in 5, proving all the doubters wrong.
2012 - The Heat win in 5, proving all the doubters wrong.

Lakers were heavy favorites in 2009
that team was money

Orlando was lucky to even get a game

OKC had a legitimate shot to beat Miami

A walking double double who plays great, versatile defense has value. They wouldn't keep him, they'd trade him for more picks/assets.

I'm pretty sure Houston likes Varejao.

I'd say it's the best way to start a rebuild.

Best way to start a rebuild is just by stock piling draft picks and not getting much proven talent in return? Not at all. Varejao plus picks would be horrible for Orlando. And even if you flipped Varejao it's not like you'd get significant value for him.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are eager partners in the three-way blockbuster trade talks to send Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers, but won’t proceed until the Lakers grant the them permission to talk to All-Star Andrew Bynum and his agent about the center’s willingness to sign a contract extension, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

"Cleveland will only do the deal if Bynum extends," a league official directly involved in the talks told Yahoo! Sports.

Los Angeles wants the structure of a three-team deal agreed in principle before letting Cleveland take that next step to communicate with Bynum and his representatives – and that won’t happen until Orlando makes a decision that it wants to also lock-in the framework of a trade, sources told Y!

you will not get equal value for dwight. you clearly need to rebuild. getting as many picks as you can is a good way to start. they arent going to unload jrich or hedo so the rebuild cant start fully anyways, might as well gets picks to hopefully package with them to move.

I heard a report saying that the Lakers would take JRich back, but not Hedo.
