It seems as if you're trying to say that just because a bunch of #2 picks in the past have flubbed is reason enough to take him at #2 even though he's not the type of player that you normally expect at #2.

(I understand this draft sucks so you don't really have a choice)

Well one thing this draft does have is depth at the PG position. Really weak for SGs though. Only one real true center.

Not really what I'm saying at all. All I said was Derrick Williams would be the best #2 pick in the past 11 years (not including Durant/Aldridge).

My point was more so that #2 picks over the past 11 years have sucked and you can't really expect a great player there like nola was suggesting. #2 is not a lock for a great player.

With the exception of Kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge, Derrick Wiliams would be the best #2 pick in the last 11 years.

I'd probably throw Tyson into that also.

He was picked #2 overall, but we traded him to Portland for Tyrus Thomas (#4 overall). So technically he was the #2 pick, but if we had it our way, Tyrus would have been #2 adding another bust to the list.

Deals fine with me at this point... If we take Aldridge we probably don't have Rose, so whatever.

I'd rather have D-Rose than LaMarcus Aldridge.

Hearing Tristan Thompson is the top name on Detroit's draft board... and talk of Jimmer to Kings is real, but hardly a lock.

"Phoenix is in hot pursuit of Williams and may have interest in a deal that would send Minnesota center Marcin Gortat and the No. 13 pick for the No. 2 pick and Nikola Pekovic."

The consensus among NBA teams is that Cleveland will select Duke freshman guard Kyrie Irving with the No. 1 pick in Thursday's draft.

But the Cavaliers aren't acting as if they've made a decision, and according to multiple sources, they are actively discussing a number of possibilities. They likely will go with Irving, but there are scenarios in which they might not.

The Cavaliers haven't told Irving that he is the No. 1 pick, and Arizona's Derrick Williams is a legitimate contender for the top spot.

Cleveland, which also holds the No. 4 overall pick, will bring in Kentucky point guard Brandon Knight for a visit early this week. Former Kentucky student Enes Kanter of Turkey, who was ruled by the NCAA to be permanently ineligible with the school, will return for a second visit.

Should the Cavaliers decide to pick Williams, a forward, and Kanter, a center, it would put pressure on the team to find another point guard, possibly in this draft, even with Baron Davis still under contract.

The Minnesota Timberwolves, meanwhile, won't let Williams or Irving slip beyond No. 2. Sources with knowledge of the situation say that if the Cavaliers pick Irving at No. 1, the Timberwolves will take Williams at No. 2, and don't plan on trading Michael Beasley or Anthony Randolph.

If the Cavs were to select Williams, the Timberwolves would take Irving at No. 2, even with the impending arrival of Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio. The Timberwolves would hold onto the Irving asset and likely command a number of suitors. Reserve point guard Jonny Flynn then would be on the trade block.

With Irving and Williams going 1-2 in some order, that leaves Utah at No. 3, with a decision between Knight and Kanter. The Jazz worked out Knight solo on Thursday and were impressed with his effort, even without competition.

Knight passed on working out Wednesday with Connecticut's Kemba Walker and BYU's Jimmer Fredette. Fredette is in play for the Jazz at No. 12 if they were to select Kanter at No. 3.

The fact that no one can say Irving is a lock at #1 tells me the Cavs are doing a great job of sending out smoke screens and it's probably helping them in trade talks.

Exactly. Plus he wasn't use to playing off the ball coming out of OSU where he was the main ball handler. Gonna take a little bit to adjust. He showed flashes in the playoffs.

This. I don't get what's so hard about understanding that most #2 picks over the past 11 years have not been great/what was expected out of them. In fact (AS OF RIGHT NOW), I would say Aldridge and Durant are the only ones that have lived up to their potential.

(Tyson Chandler has not lived up to his potential at all.)

I know Tyson Chandler isn't what he could've been ; but how can you be disappointed with a guy who was All-Defensive Second Team ( if i'm not mistaken )
