Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge denied the Brooklyn Nets permission to speak to Doc Rivers about their vacant coaching position, team and league sources confirmed to ESPNBoston.com.

Reached late Thursday, Ainge refused to comment on the Nets’ interest in Rivers and reiterated that he expects him back on the Celtics’ bench next season.

“Doc has told me he’s coming back,” Ainge said bluntly. “I talk to him almost every day about our team and what we are going to do moving forward.”

So we scratch Doc off the list that already includes Phil Jackson.  Next up is Brooklyn trying to their luck with Lionel Hollins once/if Memphis gets bounced from the playoffs.

So who's up after Hollins says no?  Larry Brown?  Red Auerbach?

Why would leave Memphis when Memphis has a better roster?

Because they're cheap and he'll almost surely get more money anywhere else.

Would have been a dream for Doc to come to Brooklyn. Interested to see how the Hollins situation pans out. I like what he was able to do in Memphis.

Celtics fans may have seen the last of Doc Rivers on the C’s bench. Rivers “feels it may be time for a change,” ESPN’s Chris Broussard said a source told him. The source also added that ”Doc loves coaching. He loves coaching in Boston.” Rivers is still under contract with the team for another three years and $21 million, but he hasn’t given confirmation that he will return for another season, leading to much speculation about his future in Boston. Rivers has been coaching the C’s since 2004. During his time in Boston, he led the team to seven playoff appearances and one title.

If we end up trading away Doc, I'd love to go after Lionel or Karl

This is what I hope happens

Lakers get: Blake Griffin, 2014 LAC 1st
Clippers get: Dwight Howard (S&T), Kevin Garnett, Doc Rivers, Paul Pierce (via BOS amnesty + LAC vet min/MLE), Coutney Lee, Jason Terry
Celtics get: DeAndre Jordan, Eric Bledsoe, Caron Butler, Paul Milsap (S&T), 2013 LAC 1st, 2013 UTAH 1st, 2014 UTAH 1st
Jazz get: Rajon Rondo

Only the Utah part really. I just added that because I'd love that lol

More likely is that the 2014 lac 1st and Bledsoe gets swapped, and the Utah deal doesn't happen
