interesting

Let's hear it
THE LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS

Like Paulie said, Klay Thompson is all about loyalty. And he probably would take less to stay in the Hamptons Five. But until he becomes a first option, his value is 100% contingent on the success of the Warriors. The moment that team hits the bed, his value could plummet. Right now he's a max contract if he tested the market. Now granted the numbers may be outdated from when I first saw them, but in Year 2 of Klay's extension if he signs within 85% of the max the Warriors literally will lose more money than they make due to the Luxury Repeaters Tax. And as good as Klay is, he's the most affordable of the four to let go between Durant, Curry, and Draymond (Green only due to his positional variability).

So who would Klay be the next most loyal to? If we remember back to the summer where Lebron went home to Cleveland, before Kevin Love was traded to the Cavs his name was floated around in trade rumors that would have sent him in exchange for Thompson (to the Wolves). And that deal was ultimately shot down by Jerry West, who is now a main consultant to the -- Los Angeles Clippers. Klay is a Cali kid who had Jerry West believing in him before the Warriors title run.

And that brings me to the other Cali kid, Kawhi Leonard. If Kawhi wasn't so extremely reserved publicly, this would look 100% deja vu to what happened to Paul George last year. He's gone, guys. This is a guy who lived in Cali his whole life before being drafted in San An, and could easily wish to be back "home" like PG13 will do this year. When he doesn't sign his Super Max deal, he'll probably get shipped off, and when he lands up in a place other than Boston or Philly (maybe Portland, Cleveland?), etc its because Philly didnt want to move the assets for a 1 year rental. He'll be entering FA'19 along with Klay, and Kyrie, and a ton of other stars. 2018 is a very limited FA class, where as 2019 is loaded.

---

And speaking of the 2019 Free Agency, that finally brings up my stance with the Clippers themselves. Jerry West comes in, and clears fucking house. Trades Blake for 2 year deal, and will probably give away Deandre on a S&T for picks and 1 year deals this year. Their 1st round pick goes to Boston (of course) if they don't land in the lottery, which means they have little incentive to not tank this season. They'll move players around like Gallo and Lou Will for picks and expiring contracts, because they won't be trying to be good.

If they can trade those two guys for expiring deals, you know what their cap space will look like for that 2019 Free Agency? They'll have the #13 pick, the #14 pick, and their 2019 1st rounder. THAT'S IT. That's enough for minimally two max deals, if not a third potentially depending on S&Ts. If the Clippers play things right they could be looking at a prosperous 2019

Michael would also be down 1-0 and 11.5 underdogs tonight

Like I said, this is like the pre-pippen years except he's in the finals
